Morgan Wallen releases new Ryl Sweet Tea. Sold out online quickly after Instagram post

Country music artist Morgan Wallen announced a sweet tea collaboration on Instagram Thursday to his more than 5 million followers, and it sold out quickly.

The country star and beverage company Ryl Tea have come together to release Wallen’s Ryl Sweet Tea – a drink inspired by Wallen’s childhood summers in Tennessee, the company said in a news release to USA TODAY.

“Ryl Tea and I worked hard to capture the sweet tea taste I remember from my childhood,” Wallen said in the release. “This tea takes me right back to my Mamaw’s front porch on a hot summer’s day.”

A six month process to ‘ensure it meets the highest standards of taste’

Wallen and Ryl Tea have been developing the drink for six months to “ensure it meets the highest standards of taste, health and authenticity,” the company said.

"Morgan was an invaluable resource in getting the Southern sweet tea just right through a taste verification step in the development process," founder and CEO of the company Blodin Ukella said.

In early June, the beverage will be available in the Gopuff app and fans can purchase the drink in stores in late July at Kroger, Wegmans, Shoprite and Sprouts Farmers Market.

Controversies in the last three years

Recent controversies surrounding Wallen haven't slowed down his popularity.

In 2021, Wallen was caught on video using a racial slur, which lead to his record company suspending his contract. He apologized for those comments in a video and interview with Michael Strahan on "Good Morning America."

Wallen also abruptly canceled a sold-out show in Oxford, Mississippi, in April, leaving throngs of angry fans inside the Mississippi Rebels' Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

A short time later, Wallen delayed six weeks of concerts citing a vocal-chord injury.
