Morgan Wallen and Post Malone Debut New Joint Single, ‘I Had Some Help,’ at Stagecoach on Festival’s Closing Night

Morgan Wallen and Post Malone have been teasing a joint single, and the two singers premiered the new song, “I Had Some Help,” in a duet performance during Wallen’s headlining set at the Stagecoach festival in California Sunday night.

The new song, “I Had Some Help,” is a drinking-buddies anthem and includes the key lyrics “I had some help / It ain’t like I can make this kind of mess all by myself / Don’t act like you ain’t help me pull that bottle off the shelf / Been deep in every weekend, if you couldn’t tell / They say teamwork makes the dream work / Hell, I had some help.”

No official announcements have been made about the single, much less a release date. But Malone offered a 17-second clip on his social media going into the weekend. Footage of a music video being shot in California prior to Stagecoach was leaked via fan accounts, showing the two artists jumping up and down in the flatbed of a pickup truck while pyro went off in the background.

Home viewers who were experiencing the festival as Stage-couch did not get to see the premiere, as Wallen’s set was not livestreamed. He was the only significant performer of the weekend whose appearance did not go out over Amazon’s Prime Video service and Twitch account. No explanation was made about Wallen’s absence, which riled up his fans in the late night hours, even though his name had been absent from the streaming schedule that was posted earlier. Many Wallen fans began theorizing that his performance was censored by Amazon, rather than the more likely explanation, that he was able to carve out an exemption from the streaming rights other artists signed over.

A rep for Wallen confirmed to Variety that the lack of a livestream was the artist’s choice. “Morgan Wallen has a special project in the works for his fans that precludes him from participating in livestreams at this time,” the representative said. Reps for Stagecoach and Amazon did to respond to requests for comment.

Wallen also had several other high-profile guests show up for his Stagecoach set, including Friday night’s headliner, Eric Church, reprising their joint recording, “Man Made a Bar.” (It was at the Church-owned bar in downtown Nashville that Wallen had his recent run-in with police after throwing a chair off a balcony.)

Bailey Zimmerman, who played the main stage prior to Wallen, showed up for a cameo on “Up Down,” while frequent collaborators Hardy and Ernest joined Wallen for “He Went to Jared” and “Cowgirls,” respectively.

Although “I Had Some Help” has not been given a public release yet date, Post Malone did release a new country single Monday morning — his cover of Brad Paisley’s “I’m Gonna Miss Her.” It was commissioned by and available exclusively via Amazon Music.

The Brad Paisley cover was first heard performed live in Malone’s own Stagecoach set Saturday night, which consisted entirely of covers of country hits, mostly from the ’90s and 2000s, including other oldies like Tim McGraw’s “Don’t Take the Girl” and Vince Gill’s “One More Last Chance.” Malone was joined during his set by Paisley (who sat in on vocals or guitar on three numbers), Dwight Yoakam and Sara Evans.

Amazon’s release of Malone’s version of “I’m Gonna Miss Her” follows on the heels of the company’s exclusive release Friday of Jelly Roll and T-Pain’s studio version of Toby Keith’s “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” which they performed live at Stagecoach later that night.
