More Dragon Ball Daima Anime Details Have Been Revealed

Dragon Ball Daima Goku and Vegeta

Last month, during New York Comic-Con, a brand-new Dragon Ball series was announced, with series creator Akira Toriyama said to be heavily involved with production. At the time we were treated to a short (but strange) teaser, and now we’ve got some more details.

As reported by ANN, the next issue of the monthly V Jump magazine in Japan revealed a host of new details about the upcoming series, though they’re mostly related to the series’ staff and less about its plot. The big news is that legendary voice actress Masako Nozawa, who’s been voicing Goku since 1986, would once again be returning to the role.

Aya Komaki, who worked on One Piece as a director, and Yoshitaka Yashima, who’s worked on a number of Dragon Ball and Digimon series in the past, are said to be directing the series, while Yuuko Kakihara of Digimon Adventure Tri fame is penning the series’ scripts.

Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama is said to have outlined the anime’s story and created the character designs, which is good to hear — Dragon Ball just isn’t the same without Toriyama. Famed animator and character designer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru – the designer behind Super Saiyan 4 – will be adapting Toriyama’s designs to the screen.

As previously reported, Dragon Ball Daima will feature Goku, Vegeta, and pretty much everyone else as child versions of themselves, after a mysterious figure wished upon the Dragon Balls. It features the return of Goku’s power pole, Nyoibo, but so far there’s no sign of the Flying Nimbus.

Not much else is known about the series beyond what was revealed in the announcement trailer, but we do know roughly when it’s set to be released. Dragon Ball Daima is slated for an Autumn 2024 release, and will be released with English subtitles at roughly the same time as the Japanese release — likely on Crunchyroll.
