The latest proposed developments, housing and other construction projects, and new businesses around Idaho’s Treasure Valley:

Boise

Dennis Mesaros, vice president of Population Health for St. Luke’s Health System, has filed a request for a permit for the new St. Luke’s North Tower and the 1st Street Medical Office Plaza at 190 E. Bannock St. on the downtown campus of the St. Luke’s Health System’s flagship hospital.

According to the application:

“The tower will be nine stories above grade and has two subterranean levels. It connects to the existing hospital to the south and will connect to the new 1st Street Medical Office Plaza to the west.”

“Key facts about the new building include providing an additional 850,845 square feet of patient-centered care. The North Tower will provide 80 additional patient beds, increasing the Boise Facility’s hospital capacity to more than 500 beds, seven new operating rooms for a total of 28, and two neuro-interventional biplanes for innovative diagnosis of strokes and brain aneurysms.”

“The Medical Office Plaza will integrate into the new North Tower and will span over 1st Street to connect to the recently constructed patient parking garage. It will consolidate the Idaho Heart Clinic and existing Jefferson Medical Office Plaza, creating easier access and simplified wayfinding for patients. The building offers 170,180 square feet for medical clinics and provider offices under one roof to care for patients.”

The Idaho Statesman reported in June on St. Luke’s request for a list of neighbors so it could meet with them about its plans.

Bare Beans Bikini Coffee opened a new stand in West Boise near the corner of Fairview Avenue and Five Mile Road.

The coffee stand opened July 26 at 10249 W. Fairview Ave. Its owners say it is the area’s first coffee stand featuring bikini-clad baristas since Hotties Mochas and More on Chinden Boulevard closed in 2011.

Owners Kylie and Braden Nelson said they’ve worked in the coffee business for years and wanted to open a shop with a twist.

“There is no other stand like ours in Boise,” Kylie Nelson told the Idaho Statesman by email. “We feel that we are bringing something fun and unique to the city.”

Restaurant owner Will Primavera’s Brick & Mortar Hospitality Barber LLC has leased 3,569 square feet of retail space in Barber Station Building at 3035 E. Barber Valley Drive, TOK Commercial reported.

Primavera and his wife, Nicole, announced in June that they would open a third Sid’s Garage restaurant there. The site is near the Boise River Greenbelt and near Bown Crossing and Marianne Williams Park in East Boise.

Meridian

Savory Swig Stores applied for a permit near Costco at 3477 W. Chinden Blvd., according to a filing.

Swig is a Utah-based soda chain that lets customers to customize sodas with a variety of add-ons.

The Statesman reported in July that Swig leased 1,200 square feet of retail space at 1866 Caldwell Blvd. in Nampa that formerly housed a Gyro Shack.

Nampa

The Idaho Transportation Department plans to improve Idaho 55 in Nampa from Farmway to Middleton roads.

The improvements include widening the highway to four lanes with 8-foot shoulders. The deparment also plans to add a raised median, bicycle lane and pedestrian pathway, sound walls and a frontage road near 10th Avenue on the north side of the highway.

Construction is expected to begin late this year or early 2024, ITD said in a news release.

On the project’s website, ITD said that Idaho 55 between Farmway and Middleton roads had the most crashes and highest traffic counts in the corridor. The agency said it needed “immediate” improvements.

The city of Nampa plans to open Nampa Fire and Rescue Station No. 6 at 1725 W. Roosevelt Ave. on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

City officials scheduled a ribbon cutting from 4 to 5 p.m.

Becky Yzaguirre, of Wilson Landing LLC, a development company in Arizona, wants to build 30 town houses on nearly four acres near Wilson Lane and Southside Boulevard.

Yzaguirre wrote in the application that the Wilson Landing subdivision would appeal to younger families “who are not yet ready to purchase a single-family home.”

According to the application, the homes would include two-car garages and 15 parking spots for visitors. It also said developers plan to build sustainable, water-efficient landscaping.

The Nampa Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to hear the proposal at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at City Hall.

Caldwell

Gregory Johnson, of Westpark Management LLC in Meridian, plans to build 266 single-family homes on 80 acres on the west side of Midland Boulevard near Lincoln Road.

The homes, which would make up the Midland Meadows Subdivision, would be built on agricultural land.

Midland Meadows would include open space, pathways and a rock-lined waterway as part of the irrigation system.

The Caldwell City Council approved the project Aug. 1.

The Idaho Youth Ranch is opening a new center in north Caldwell to support vulnerable youths.

The Residential Center for Healing & Resilience has 64 individual bedrooms, a year-round charter school, a dining hall with commercial and training kitchens and a recreation hall, according to a news release.

It will offer psychiatric care, therapeutic treatment and 24-hour nursing and can accommodate over 100 Idaho children ages 11 to 17.

“These are children coming from varied backgrounds, many having experienced significant trauma,” Dr. Spencer Merrick, the center’s medical director, said in the release. “Their needs require a level of support that goes beyond routine therapy.”

The center received $35 million from private donors, local businesses and foundations along with a grant from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.

The center is located at 28371 El Paso Road. It is set to open Tuesday, Aug. 15. It will employ over 110 people, the Youth Ranch said.

Eagle

Laren Bailey, of DevCo, a real estate agency in Boise, wants to build 108 single-family homes on 54 acres on the north side of State Street, near North Riverview Street.

The development, called Capella Estates, would include traditional homes and large real estate homes, according to the application. The subdivision would also include two parks, pathways, a dog park and central park with a play structure and open lawn area.

A new development may be coming to the awaited and debated Eagle shooting sports park.

The City Council is scheduled to hear proposals for the archery portion of the park. The archery range would include 16 to 20 lanes on a static course and a 3D course with 15 target points and a walking path.

The archery range represents the second phase of the shooting park.

Around Idaho

Two national monuments and a national historic site parks in southern Idaho are set to receive over $9 million for infrastructure improvements, the National Parks Service said in a news release.

The parks include Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve, Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument and the Minidoka National Historic Site.

Funding from the Great American Outdoors Act will help the parks update and repair infrastructure, improve employee safety and expand recreational opportunities.

Notable

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has scheduled virtual public workshops to provide information and answer questions about Idaho Power’s application to raise its base rates for electricity, including a 10.8% rate hike for residential customers.
