More changes in Fresno TV news, as CBS47 morning anchor heads to nation’s capital

Megan Rupe

In yet another change to the Fresno TV news landscape, a second longtime on-air personality is leaving town.

Megan Rupe announced to viewers on Thursday that “her time at KGPE/KSEE in Fresno is coming to a close.”

“I’ll soon be joining the incredible and exceptional team of journalists at WJLA in Washington, D.C.,” she wrote in a social media post.

WJLA is the ABC affiliate for the district of Columbia and a flagship station for Sinclair Media Group.

Rupe did not say when her last day would be as the anchor of CBS47’s Eyewitness News This Morning or what exactly what she will be doing in her new position at WJLA.

A message to Rupe was not immediately returned.

It does appear she will be in town for a few more weeks, at least.

She still needs to sell her house before she gets on the plane.

She will also be saying her goodbyes.

From Instagram: “I have a list of sincere “thank you’s” to my many mentors, coworkers, and many former colleagues. So many people have poured into my life. None of their kindness is taken for granted, and I intend to celebrate with them in-person over these final few weeks in the San Joaquin Valley.

Rupe is a homegrown talent.

She grew up in Fresno and was part of the local theater scene before pivoting to journalism. By the time she graduated from Fresno State in 2014, she was already an intern at KSEE, pitching story ideas, assisting with research and conducting interviews. She worked as a freelance field producer and reporter with the station before landing a job as the weekend anchor in 2016.

“KSEE24 was my very first home in the news industry,” Rupe said in her social media post.

“I started as an intern in college–chasing reporters all over town and trying to absorb every piece of advice. It’s been almost a decade now of incredible learning and growth–on both the professional and personal level.”

She took over as the anchor for CBS47’s morning and noon newscasts in 2019.

Rupe’s departure is the latest on-air turnover to happen in Fresno over the last two months.

In November, popular morning new anchor Caroline Collins left KSEE24, where she had worked since 2020. She now works as a weekday evening anchor for the FOX station in Houston. The move came just weeks after Nathalie Vera left for the Bay Area, where she works as a bilingual reporter for NBC/Telemundo.

And just this week, ABC30 reporter Corin Hoggard announced he would be leaving Fresno at the end of this month. He’s relocating to Minnesota to be close to family.
