Nissan Finally Teases a New Z NismoNissan USA

We already know the new Nissan Z is an excellent analog sports car for the money that compares well with the more-expensive Supra, but the car has been missing something. Nissan launched the newest Z without a true performance variant, and the Nismo version that has been offered on both the 350Z and 370Z was nowhere to be found. Now, thanks to a teaser from Nissan, we know that a Nismo Z is certainly coming and we know exactly how it will look.

In the 45-second clip, we see pro drifter Chris Forsberg briefly look under the hood of a Z before drifting around a track. More aggressive design features are the most prominent thing to make out here, headlined by a more angular set of bumpers highlighted in a contrasting red along the bottom. The Z also features a wraparound spoiler, which continues from the decklid well beyond the rear glass. Finally, the clip shows unique Nismo-branded bucket seats, complete with mounting points for a five-point harness.

Performance changes that go with the new design are still unclear, but the last generation 370Z Nismo added 18 horsepower over the base 370Z. The clip focuses on Forsberg looking under the hood, but the shot still seems to show the same twin-turbocharged V-6 on the base car, and shots of the tachometer seem to indicate the same 7000 RPM redline. Given that the clip is focused on performance on a track, other revisions to make the car even more engaging and track-ready should be expected, too.

Nissan has given no further indication on when we will see the rest of the car, with the video only adding that the Nismo Z is coming soon. The choice to show the entire car uncovered in this clip suggests that those further details may not be all that far away.
