Moore wins GOP nomination for Superior Court 1 judge; Roberts wins commissioner's race

RICHMOND, Ind. — Attorney Ronald J. Moore on Tuesday was elected as the Republican nominee for judge of Wayne Superior Court 1.

Wayne County Democrats have not yet fielded a candidate in that race, or seven other countywide races that were on Tuesday's GOP ballot.

Superior Court 1 Judge Charles Todd is retiring at year's end.

In Tuesday's race, Moore received 3,000 votes — nearly 48% of ballots cast — to defeat attorneys J. Clayton Miller and Austin Shadle.

In other Wayne County races:

Aaron Roberts won the GOP nomination for Wayne County commissioner representing District 2, drawing 3,057 votes to Jeff Wheeler's 2,578.

The district's incumbent commissioner, Mary Anne Butters, did not seek re-election.

Tara Pegg won the GOP nomination for Wayne County clerk, defeating Melanie Vaughn 3,137 votes to 2,792.

The incumbent clerk, Debra Berry, is completing her second term. Under state law, county clerks are limited to serving two consecutive terms.

Beth Fields won more than 78% of the votes cast in her race for Wayne County treasurer. Her opponent was Douglas Glass.

R. Brent Meadows scored a convincing win to become the Republican nominee for Wayne County coroner. He received more than 78% of votes cast in his primary race with Timothy Hubert Swift.

Another incumbent county commissioner on Tuesday's GOP ballot, Jeff Plasterer, ran without opposition, as did at-large county council members Gary Saunders, Max Smith and Cathy Williams, and Wayne County Surveyor Gordon Moore.

Democrats have until July 3 to fill vacancies on the general election ballot.
