Moore defeats Carl in GOP member-on-member race in Alabama

Rep. Barry Moore (R-Ala.) has won the Republican nomination for the House seat representing Alabama’s 1st Congressional District, defeating fellow incumbent Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Ala.), Decision Desk HQ projects.

Carl and Moore were set up to face each other in Carl’s home district after Alabama’s congressional lines were redrawn to make Moore’s 2nd Congressional District predominantly Black, and a likely Democratic pickup.

One poll from Auburn University taken late last month showed Carl ahead of Moore by 8 points, 43 percent to 35 percent, but with 22 percent undecided.

Moore will likely win the seat against his Democratic opponent in November in the strongly conservative-leaning district.
