Monsieur Spade: Clive Owen Is on the Case as the Iconic Private Eye in First Trailer for AMC Crime Drama — Watch

Got a mystery that needs solving? You’d be wise to call in Sam Spade… and even better if Clive Owen is playing him.

Owen stars as the iconic private detective of The Maltese Falcon fame in the upcoming AMC crime drama Monsieur Spade, slated to debut early next year. AMC has released a first-look teaser at the six-episode series — which you can watch above — with Owen playing a newly retired Sam Spade, who’s enjoying some leisure time in the south of France in 1963 and swimming nude (!) in a luxurious pool.

But of course, trouble finds him when six nuns end up brutally murdered at a local convent, and soon enough, he’s donning his trademark fedora and trench coat to solve the case. “As the town grieves, secrets emerge, and new leads are established,” per the official description, and “Spade learns that the murders are somehow connected to a mysterious child who is believed to possess great powers.”

Emmy winner Scott Frank (The Queen’s Gambit) serves as co-creator, writer and director, with Homicide: Life on the Street and Oz veterans Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson on board as executive producers. Along with Owen, the cast includes Denis Ménochet (Inglourious Basterds), Louise Bourgoin (The Romanoffs) and Stanley Weber (Outlander).
