Monroe County sheriff: Man arrested after road rage incident involving handgun

FRENCHTOWN TWP. — A Monroe County deputy sheriff investigating a road rage incident Tuesday night arrested a Newport man who had two unregistered handguns in his vehicle and no concealed pistol license.

At approximately 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, Monroe County Central Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a road rage incident that was occurring on northbound Interstate 75 near Nadeau Road, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said in a news release. The victim caller reported that during this incident, the driver of a white GMC pickup pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim several times, while they traveling side by side on the roadway. The victim was able to provide a detailed description of the offending vehicle and the weapon used.

Deputies responded to the area, as the victim updated dispatchers with their location, the release said. The suspect vehicle was found on North Telegraph Road near I-275 by Deputy Zachery Marzouq who stopped the pickup and took the driver into custody. Located inside of the vehicle were two handguns, both which were unregistered. The suspect, a 19-year-old male from Newport, also did not possess a concealed pistol license. He was arrested on charges of felonious assault and carrying a concealed firearm.

The arrested man's name was not released.

The incident remains under investigation by Marzouq. Anyone with information about it is asked to call 734-240-7746.
