Monday Seacoast Roundup: Montplasir leads Portsmouth girls basketball past Winnacunnet

PORTSMOUTH - The Portsmouth High School girls basketball team beat Winnacunnet, 57-16 on Monday for its seventh consecutive win in a Division I game at Stone Gymnasium.

Margaret Montplaisir and Maddie MacCannell each scored 12 points for Portsmouth (12-3), while Mackenzie Lombardi had eight and Syd Pettis seven.

Kaila Roy and Amiyah Melaugh both had four points for Winnacunnet (1-14). In total, 10 players scored for the Clippers and 13 got "good, quality minutes."

"Good opportunity and a lot playing time spread around," Portsmouth head coach Tim Hopley said. "It was one those games where nothing really came easy, we kind of had to fight."

EXETER - Mary Clare Larkin had 10 points and five steals, Marlie Macek had 10 points and Kate Ducharme had seven points and four assists for Exeter (7-8) in this Division I win.

Ellie Kirkland and Ari Pompeo both had six points for the Blue Hawks, and Rylee Marchand had a 3-pointer.

Gabby Couture, Mackenzie Leblanc, Kate McCawley Damiya Perkins and Meagan Uraskevich all scored four points for Spaulding.

MANCHESTER - Ava Buchanan scored 10 points and Jaela Stockbower had eight for PCA (11-7) in a Division IV loss.

HUDSON - Olivia Rutland scored 16 points for Dover (10-5) in this Division I loss.

LEXINGTON, Mass. - Ella Smith's 16 points led Berwick Academy in this Eastern Independent League game.

Olivia Flynn (13), Gracie Smith (12), Leah Zaheer (11) and Mira Franzoso (11) all scored in double figures for Berwick.

HAMPTON - Sophomore Isaiah Reis scored a game-high 22 points for Portsmouth (9-6) in this Division I win over rival Winnacunnet.

Jackson Jones added 14 points for the Clippers, while Ryan Swartz had 12 and Princeton Daniel eight.

Sophomore Christian Chartier's 17 points led Winnacunnet (2-13), while Tyson Khalil had 14.

HUDSON - Cai Summers scored a team-high 26 points, and freshman Zealand Marquis had nine for PCA (12-6) in this Division IV loss.

DOVER - Calab Marasca had two goals and an assist for Dover (9-4-3) in this Division II win at Dover Ice Arena.

Owen Culcasi and Tyler Buchanan also scored for Dover, while Carter Bell had two assists, and Culcasi and Owen Wood both had one.

Patrick Slover, assisted by Jesse Court and Chase Conklin, scored the lone goal for Portsmouth/Newmarket (3-10-1).

Nashua North/Souhegan 7

Winnacunnet 5

NASHUA - Tyler Blank, Brady Thompson, Alex Santora, Nolan Rennie and Dre Marelli all scored a goal for Winnacunnet (12-3) in this Division II loss at Conway Arena.

Alec Mitchell had two assists for the Warriors, while Santora, Ian McCormack, Matthew Clouthier and Rennie all had one.

WHS duo, Portsmouth freshman qualify for Meet of Champions

GILFORD - Winnacunnet scored 670 points and placed fourth at the 16-team Division I state championship meet at Gunstock Mountain Resort, while Portsmouth (614) was sixth, Exeter (574) seventh and Dover (569) eighth.

Winnacunnet's Reese Gandt and Mackenzie Champney finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the giant slalom and qualified for next week's Meet of Champions.

Portsmouth freshman Addie Diehl was seventh overall in the slalom, and 10th in the giant slalom, qualifying for the Meet of Champions in both events.
