Moms, modern astronomers and Master Gardeners: 7 events for this weekend

It's a dried meat

The Isleta Resort and Casino will host the 2nd annual Jerky Fest from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 11, Enjoy vendors, food, music and car show. Tickets are $22 at nm-jerky-fest.square.site, and children 12 and under are free.

Feathered friends

Learn more about World Migratory Bird Day at the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11. This year's theme is "Protect Insects, Protect Birds," and visitors can learn about native gardening to attract birds from the Albuquerque Master Gardeners, Native Plant Society of New Mexico and Albuquerque Bonsai Club. The event is included with admission to the Botanic Garden, 2601 Central Ave. NW.

Ancient astronomers

The Jemez Historic Site is hosting "Looking to the Skies: Ancient and Modern Astronomers" from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, May 12. Learn more about astronomy and how people in the ancient past viewed the day and night skies. The event is included with admission, $7 for adults, with children 16 and younger free, at nmhistoricsites.org/jemez. The site is located at 18160 New Mexico 4 in Jemez Springs.

A clean sweep

The Coronado Historic Site is looking for volunteers to help get the site ready for the summer from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Help with weeding, trail maintenance and painting with CHS staff as your guide. Call 505-525-1340 for more information on how you can help. The site is located at 485 Kuaua Road in Bernalillo.

How does their garden grow?

The Santa Fe Extension Master Gardeners are hosting a Garden Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Santa Fe County Fairgrounds. Along with the plant sale, there will be demos, exhibits, food trucks, live music and more. The fairgrounds are located at 3229 Rodeo Road in Santa Fe.

Tour de arte

The 27th annual Placitas Studio Tour returns for a weekend art experience. The free event runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12. Visit placitasstudiotour.com for a tour map and more information.

Celebrate Mother's Day in Old Town with an afternoon of live music and fun. From 1-5 p.m. Sunday, May 12, enjoy live entertainment from Nathaniel Krantz, Baila! Baila! and Picoso, along with pet adoptions and free activities for the kids.
