Mom, 7-year-old daughter found dead in Connecticut murder-suicide

A mother and her 7-year-old daughter found dead in their home in an affluent Connecticut town were likely victims of a murder-suicide, authorities said Friday.

Police responding to a 911 call about an unresponsive woman arrived at the large, two-story house on Lyndale Park in Westport around 4 p.m. Thursday.

Cops went inside and discovered the body of Tracy Do, 46, and her daughter, Layla Malon, 7.

Do died of self-inflicted stab wounds, and her daughter was drowned, Connecticut’s chief medical examiner said. The daughter’s death was ruled a homicide.

Do had been served an eviction notice by the home’s owner earlier this year after their romantic relationship ended, The Hour newspaper of Norwalk reported.

The homeowner said Do had destroyed some of his belongings and was escalating tensions in the house, the newspaper said.

A judge denied the eviction request, citing an order by Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont barring evictions during the pandemic.

Westport police and the state police Major Crimes Unit were both investigating the case.

Layla Malon was a student in Westport’s public schools. The town’s schools superintendent said the district “has begun to mobilize all of our resources to provide the necessary support to our students and faculty.”
