Mold: Keep pets out of river warning after chemical firm fire

People have been warned to stay away from a river near chemical factory following a fire at the site.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service have asked people not to go near the River Alyn and to keep their pets out of the water.

This follows firefighters being sent to Synthite on Denbigh Road in Mold, Flintshire, on Tuesday afternoon.

Two crews were still at the site on Thursday morning.

The fire service said it was working with officials from Natural Resources Wales and would continue to monitor the water courses and take any necessary action.

Mike Plant from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "As a precaution, we are asking people not to go near the River Alyn and to keep animals away from the water."

Public Health Wales has told people living nearby that keeping windows and doors closed is no longer necessary.

The fire service and North Wales Police are assisting the Health and Safety Executive with its investigation and roads around the factory will remain closed for at least another 24 hours.
