Mets star pitcher Max Scherzer reportedly feels strongly about who should be the team’s next manager. On Tuesday, Pat Raggazo of Inside the Mets reported Scherzer’s preference for who should lead New York’s clubhouse going forward.

“[Per sources]… Max Scherzer has made it known that he prefers Buck Showalter to be the team’s next manager,” Ragazzo shared.

Showalter’s name has been circulating around the club’s manager opening in recent days. If there’s one thing Buck Showalter does, it’s turn teams around. And quickly. During stops with the Yankees, Diamondbacks, Rangers and Orioles, Showalter substantially improved each team’s win totals in the span of two years.

Once fans caught wind of Ragazzo’s report on social media, word quickly spread.

“This is a major development,” said one Mets fan. “And I would say this increases Buck’s candidacy immensely.”

“If Max wants it I want it,” added another fan.

“Can confirm this,” said an SB Nation writer. “Have also heard that Mets star Francisco Lindor has been pushing for Joe Espada.”

“Max Scherzer hasn’t thrown a pitch for the Mets and he is already doing great things,” joked another fan.
