Max Scherzer free agency watch continues on Monday.

Late on Sunday, reports surfaced, linking the superstar pitcher to the New York Mets. While the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants are also believed to be in contention, the NL East franchise might be the favorite.

A deal has not been reached, though.

Monday morning, MLB insider Joel Sherman reported that the Mets offer is in the three year, $129 million range – roughly $42 million per season.

That is high.

MLB fans have taken to social media to react.

“If Scherzer is Priority No. 1 and you’re willing to offer 3 years and $129 million, why not 3 and $140m? $150m?” one fan tweeted.

“In the NBA they’d call this a Max contract,” another fan joked.

“I’m gonna be honest Scherzer isn’t worth 43M per year,” another fan added on social media.

“This is insanity. The guy had a dead arm at the end of the playoffs. Good luck with this Metropolitans,” another fan wrote on Twitter.

Now, we continue to wait…

It’s already been an eventful offseason for the Mets, who have added free agents like Starling Marte and Eduardo Escobar, among others.

Scherzer, of course, would be the biggest coup of them all.
