Mitch McConnell Freezes Again During Press Conference, Renewing Health Concerns

Sen. Mitch McConnell froze once again and appeared to be in a state of confusion while taking questions at a press conference Wednesday in Covington, Ky.

Following a forum for the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the senator had a difficult time hearing reporters and responding, taking long pauses before an aid stepped in to repeat questions and come to his rescue. Reporters were met with long stares and mumbled, often inaudible responses before he was eventually led away. (See video of the incident embedded above and more here.)

According to WLWT, the senator eventually returned to the podium and reported he was “fine.” Said one of his aides: “He felt lightheaded and stepped away for a moment. He came back to handle Q&A, which as everyone observed was sharp.”

This isn’t the first incident that has sparked concern for McConnell’s health. Last month, the 81-year-old Republican was briefing reporters on the possibility of impeaching President Biden when he suddenly took an extended pause and froze. His colleagues and aides rushed to his side before escorting him away. He later returned to the podium, assuring the assembled media, “I’m fine.”

Wednesday’s health scare comes nearly six months after McConnell was hospitalized with a concussion after tripping and hitting his head at a hotel in Washington, D.C.
