OXFORD — Swayze Field is the site of a renewed rivalry, with Ole Miss baseball playing host to Mississippi State for a three-game series that opens Friday.

The Rebels (18-15, 3-9 SEC) are looking to put an end to a seven-game losing streak and a skid against their rival. Ole Miss hasn't won the regular-season series against Mississippi State since 2015.

Coach Mike Bianco's team had a promising start to SEC play, taking two of three against South Carolina at home. However, that was followed by a series loss at Tennessee before the Rebels were swept by Kentucky and Arkansas.

Mississippi State (21-12, 6-6) enters the series after an emotional weekend at home against Georgia. MSU won the opener and the rubber match. However, in the second game, an altercation at the end of the eighth inning resulted in more than 10 players getting ejected.

The three games in Oxford this weekend will be the only ones between the rivals that count toward the SEC standings. However, they will face each other in a fourth game in Pearl on May 1 for the Governor's Cup.
