Mississippi State football score vs Southern Miss in first game after Zach Arnett fired

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State football interim coach Greg Knox said the team’s goal to close the regular season is the win the state title. The mission begins Saturday with a game at Davis Wade Stadium against Southern Miss.

The Bulldogs (4-6) are set to play their first game since Monday’s firing of former coach Zach Arnett. Knox was promoted as MSU opened a national search for Arnett’s replacement.

Mississippi State enters Week 12 needing to win out in order to extend its bowl streak to 14 years. After playing USM, Mississippi State will host Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving night.

The Bulldogs and Golden Eagles (3-7) are meeting for the first time since 2019. MSU has won the previous five matchups dating back to 1989. However, a win for Southern Miss would even the all-time series with 15 wins apiece.

Mississippi State has dropped its last three games while Southern Miss has won the last two.
