STARKVILLE — After dropping a series at Ole Miss, Mississippi State baseball enters another crucial weekend back home at Dudy Noble Field.

MSU (23-14, 7-8 SEC) hosts a series against Auburn (19-17, 2-13) as part of Super Bulldog Weekend. Mississippi State is looking to get its third SEC series victory of the season, with the other two coming against LSU and Georgia.

The Bulldogs got off to a respectable start in conference play. After defeating LSU, Mississippi State was able to avoid sweeps at Texas A&M and Florida before taking two games at home against UGA. However, the first unexpected result came last weekend at Swayze Field when MSU lost its series against its rival for the first time since 2015.

Mississippi State bounced back with a resounding seven-inning win against Alcorn State on Tuesday. Now comes a chance to rebound against a struggling Auburn team. The Tigers have lost all five SEC series this season and their past five conference games.

Behind another dazzling start from pither Khal Stephen, Mississippi State opened the series with an easy win. Stephen threw seven innings and allowed only one run, though it was unearned. In SEC play, he has pitched 36⅓ innings while allowing only eight earned runs. Offensively, Mississippi State had four hitters in the bottom half of the lineup record multiple hits. Bryce Chance's solo home run in the fourth proved to be the winning hit.
