Some Mississippi schools close, shift to virtual learning ahead of Wednesday's severe weather

Due to the threat of severe weather on Wednesday, some school districts in Mississippi are amending their school schedules.

Here is a list of school districts' weather statements:

  • Forrest County School District: Virtual.

  • Hattiesburg Public Schools: Closed.

  • Petal School District: Closed

  • Hinds Community College: Virtual. All on-site activities are cancelled. All six locations will be closed.

  • Jones County School District: Closed.

  • Lamar County Schools: Closed.

  • Simpson County Schools: Closed.

  • University of Southern Mississippi: All operations at the university and along the Gulf Coast will be closed. School officials stated students can expect to hear from faculty regarding any transition to online course delivery.

  • William Carey University: The locations in Hattiesburg, Tradition, and Baton Rouge, La., will be closed. Campuses are scheduled to re-open as normal on Thursday, April 11.

No decision to close or transition to virtual learning has been issued yet by the following districts: Clinton Public Schools, Hinds County School District, Jackson Public Schools, Madison County School District, Pearl Public Schools, Rankin County School District, Vicksburg Warren School District, or Laurel School District.
