'Missing ball': Here's Joey Votto's latest sad free-agent post

Joey Votto continues to lean into his disappointment over the lack of offers he's received as a free agent.

The longtime Cincinnati Reds first baseman told Dan Patrick last week that his morale is "as low as it gets, and at this rate, I don't see it getting any better."

He's posted videos at the car wash and about refusing to put away shopping carts.

The photo he posted Tuesday night on Twitter/X and Instagram showed him sitting on a park bench looking dejected, eating a sandwich with a cup at his feet and a baseball bat leaning against the bench. It's an impressive tribute to the "Sad Keanu" meme, which actor Keanu Reeves discussed with Stephen Colbert in a 2021 interview.

The Reds announced in November that Votto's 2024 club option wouldn't be picked up.

Jon Heyman reported in January that the Los Angeles Angels were among Major League Baseball teams interested in Votto.

Votto has played for the Reds from 2007 to 2023, batting .294 with 356 home runs, 459 doubles and an OPS of .920 in 8,746 plate appearances. He has led the league in on-base percentage seven times.
