Mindy Kaling Addresses Longstanding Rumor About Her and BFF B.J. Novak

After dating and working together on The Office, Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak have stayed very close for years, but are they still friends?
As a rumor spread about the friends having a serious falling out, Kaling joined the conversation to shut down the theories in her classic style.
The current discussion about the two actors began when the celebrity gossip account DeuxMoi shared a video on Instagram claiming they heard from someone that the two were no longer talking after Kaling initiated a break, with Novak allegedly agreeing they needed "some distance."
Well, this doesn't seem to be the case, as Kaling commented on DeuxMoi's video, writing, "Omg i haaate him so much," which many interpreted to be clear sarcasm from the actress.
The celebrity friendship has faced many rumors over the years, and quite a few people questioned if Novak was the father to Kaling's two children, as she has never revealed the father's identity.
In an interview with Marie Claire in 2022, Kaling addressed the rumors, saying it "doesn't bother me," before confirming that Novak does have a parental role for her kids, but as a godparent.
"He's the godparent to both of my kids—and they have such a great relationship—and so far [the rumors haven't] affected my happiness at all, it hasn't affected my kids or BJ," she explained.
Kaling is raising her kids as a single parent, declaring in the same interview, "The choice to have a child—by yourself, on your own terms—it was the best part of my life."
While Kaling and Novak occasionally show off their friendship on social media, they haven't appeared on each other's accounts in a while, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything's amiss.
Last awards season, the two flaunted their friendship as they attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party together. Around the same time, Novak spoke about their relationship in an emotional speech while presenting Kaling with the Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television at the 2023 Producers Guild Awards.
