After Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford finally reached the top of the mountain with Sunday’s Super Bowl victory, the Hall of Fame debate has officially begun.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Mina Kimes revealed whether or not she believes Matthew Stafford is a gold jacket on “First Take” with Molly and Stephen A.

“I do not,” Kimes said. “Now. Right now I do not, I agree with [Richard] Sherman. Matthew Stafford had a hell of a season and deserves a lot of credit for proving his critics wrong. But I think we have to pump the brakes a little on going right from Super Bowl to Canton.”

“My opinion is that the Hall of Fame [bar] … should be that a player has either been the best, or among the best, at his position. Ideally for some period of time,” Kimes explained. “Matthew Stafford’s played 12 seasons in the NFL. In those 12 seasons, he’s made one Pro Bowl, never been an All-Pro … he’s finished top five in passer rating once, and top five in touchdowns three times.”

Mina also pointed to Stafford’s “counting stats” and spoke about how the game has changed so much, that many players will likely finish with similarly high numbers.

In the end, Stafford’s certainly been an overlooked talent at the QB position. But his ticket to Canton, Ohio is far from stamped.
