Milwaukee police shoot 20-year-old man late Sunday evening

Milwaukee police officers shot a 20-year-old man who fled and shot a gun at them late Sunday night, police said.

Police said that the shooting took place around 11:15 p.m. near North 64th Street and West Silver Spring Drive and that the man is in critical condition. Police responded to the area after receiving calls about gunshots in the area.

The Milwaukee Police Department held a 2:40 a.m. press conference detailing the situation. Later, a Milwaukee Police District 4 spokesperson confirmed the reports of other media outlets.

“Several squads responded and, upon arrival, uniformed officers located an armed suspect, who abruptly fled from officers on foot, ignoring their lawful commands to stop,” Craig Sarnow, an assistant chief, said at the morning press conference.

The man fled two blocks before he fired at officers, police said. Officers returned fire and hit him multiple times. Police said they recovered a gun on the scene.

Three officers have been placed on administrative duty and Wauwatosa Police Department is leading the investigation into the shooting.
