Milwaukee driver flees traffic stop, runs red light and hits two cars, killing one person

On Tuesday night, a Milwaukee driver fled a police traffic stop and crashed into other cars moments later, killing one person and severely injuring another.

The incident happened around 10 p.m., after a Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop at the 27th Street viaduct, a sheriff’s office news release said. The driver sped away, running a red light and hitting two other vehicles at the intersection of N. 27th Street and W. St. Paul Avenue.

In an emailed statement detailing the crash, Milwaukee County Sheriff Denita Ball said that the 24-year-old fleeing driver hit two vehicles. One hit car was driven by a 65-year-old woman who was critically injured and is in the hospital, her 69-year-old passenger was hit and killed. The driver of the second struck vehicle was uninjured, Ball’s statement said.

The 24-year-old driver was initially pulseless and not breathing but he was revived at the scene, Ball said. The driver is now in a hospital in stable condition. The driver was found in possession of a firearm and drugs, Ball’s statement said.

Ball’s statement said that the driver of the fleeing vehicle was out on bail from Waukesha County on the following charges: fleeing-eluding, 2nd-Degree reckless endangering safety, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of THC, operating after revocation, and possession of illegally obtained prescription. He is also charged with felony bail jumping.

The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating the crash and the sheriff’s office is investigating the alleged criminal actions of the fleeing driver, Ball’s statement said.
