Milwaukee Bucks trade rumors

Dejounte Murray, Atlanta guard

The 6-foot, 5-inch Murray was first connected to the Bucks via Bleacher Report, as the Hawks have apparently decided the backcourt pairing with Trae Young has been a failure.

Atlanta gave up multiple first-round picks to San Antonio to acquire the 27-year-old prior to the 2022 season and The Ringer reported the Hawks are looking for first-round picks in return as Murray is under contract through 2027. The Bucks do not possess any outright first-round picks to trade, though they can add secondary swaps to picks that were sent out to New Orleans and Portland in the Holiday and Lillard trades.

A league source told the Journal Sentinel that straight up, it would be an extreme stretch to think the Bucks have any chance at meeting the current asking price. Another team (or teams) would likely have to be involved.

As far as a fit, Murray (an all-star in 2022) has some defensive chops and could improve the starting lineup and bench unit by moving one of the league’s top three-point shooters in Malik Beasley to a reserve role. Murray also has had a year-plus of working alongside a scoring point guard in Trae Young, so the projection here would be he fits in seamlessly next to Lillard – though being the third or fourth option on offense would be a drastic change for the 20-point per game scorer.
