Millersport Outstanding Senior Allison Foltz enjoys volunteering to help the community

MILLERSPORT − Along with winning awards for her volunteer work, Millersport High School Outstanding Senior Allison Foltz is also of the school's two valedictorians this year.

"I've won the President's Volunteer Service Award for volunteering," she said. "I have over 300 volunteer hours while in high school and I tried to be really active in the community when it comes to that."

Her volunteer hours include working at the Millersport Community Food Pantry, with the National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society, among other things.

"It's less about the volunteer hours and more about helping the community," Foltz said. "It's just really important to give back to your community. I think Millersport is such a special town and I want to see it and the people in it continue to thrive."

Foltz will graduate with a grade point average of around 4.2.

She said time management was important in keeping her grades up and being involved with all her activities.

"And also making sure I'm taking care of myself before I'm trying to go out and do extra things," Foltz said. "I've tried to have a really healthy balance of school life and my extra-curricular activities and things I do beyond the classroom. I've tried to make sure I've managed my time wisely."

Foltz will enter Ohio University in the fall to major in integrated language arts education to eventually teach grades seven through 12 English classes.

She said she would miss her high school days, however.

"I have really appreciated being at Millersport," she said. "I've had really amazing teachers here, which has helped inspire me to be a teacher, too. I want to help students the way they helped me and supported me."

She said incoming freshmen should find what excites them and work toward that.

"There's people who are willing to help you if you're willing to reach out and put energy into that," Foltz said. "So if you are maybe facing some difficulties, there are people to help you."
