Millersport news: Poppies to be handed out at Circle K on Saturday for Poppy Day

Millersport American Legion Auxiliary Unit 637 will hold its annual Poppy Day on Saturday, May 4. Members of the Auxiliary will join 2024 Little Miss Poppy Hannah Hampson at the Circle K in Millersport to hand out Poppies in honor of our veterans.

Unit 637 will also hold its annual No-Bake Bake Sale during the month of May. The best-ever dishcloths may be purchased from Auxiliary members also.

Alumni banquet

Plans are being made for the 95th Annual Millersport High School Alumni Banquet to be held Saturday, May 25th in the Walnut Township District Auditorium, 11850 Lancaster Street in Millersport. The dinner buffet will begin at 5:00 p.m. The 50-Year Class of 1974 and the 25-Year Class of 1999 will be recognized as well as any other classes having special reunions. The Millersport High School Class of 2024 will be welcomed to the Alumni Association.

Upcoming events at Millersport Junior/Senior High School

A Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at the school on Thursday, May 2.The Students of the Month celebration will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2.On Friday, May 3 the Sixth through Eighth Grade STEM students will go on a field trip and the 11th and 12th Grade Renaissance Day will be held.

Senior citizens

The Millersport Senior Citizens met April 19 in the Lions Clubhouse. President Richard Neff welcomed the group and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Nancy Davis gave the blessing before the potluck meal. The Kitchen Committee for the day were Marty and Dave Holtz. The Kitchen Committee for the May meetings will be Debbie Gant, Nancy Davis and Karen Mosher.

Guest speaker Julianna Kinkade reported on the services for senior citizens through “The Senior Hub – Meals on Wheels”. The Senior Hub provides more than meals, with over 20 additional services to improve the quality of life for older adults and enable independent living for as long as safely possible. The Senior Hub is located at 1515 Cedar Hill Road in Lancaster. For more information call 740-681-5050.

President Neff conducted the business meeting following lunch. Robin Hite and Andrew Proud were recognized with April birthdays. Door prizes were won by Judy Harris, Alice Graham, Mary Dupler, Dave Holtz, Ruthanne Hammel, Evelyn Worrell, Debbie Gant, Rosie Brookover, Robin Hite and Kelvin Hite.

The third-grade students of Millersport Elementary School presented a program with the Spring theme. Their program concluded by playing “Spring Bingo” with the senior citizens.

Board of Education

The Walnut Township Local School District Board of Education met in regular session April 8 in the Elementary Media Center.

Elementary Principal Kim Mathews reported on state testing dates, Kindergarten Registration and screenings, ODNR presentation, Junior Olympics, and STAR Report.

Megan Terry, Junior/Senior High School Principal, reported on March Students of the Month, testing dates, upcoming spring events, and thanked those presenters and speakers who have visited classrooms over the past few months.

The board voted to go into executive session to consider the employment and compensation of a public employee. No action followed.
