Millersport news: Carry-out steak dinner, Monster Mash, Sweet Corn Festival banquet and more

The Millersport Methodist Church will hold a carry-out baked steak dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. The menu will include a 6-ounce baked steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, slaw, roll and pie. The cost of tickets is $15. To have tickets held at the door call 740-467-2159. All proceeds will go to missions.

Trick or Treat and Monster Mash

The village of Millersport will hold its annual Trick-or-Treat Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26. Monster Mash III will be held in the Commodore Bank parking lot with entertainment.

Sweet Corn Festival Banquet

The Millersport Lions Club held its annual Festival Appreciation Banquet on Oct. 19 in the Lions Clubhouse. The Millersport Lions Club annually recognizes friends and supporters who help to make their largest fundraising project, the Sweet Corn Festival, possible. Guests were treated to a delicious Bar-B-Q meal, fellowship, committee reports by chairmen, and entertainment by Marty and Linda Savage.

Senior Citizens

The Millersport Senior Citizens met Oct. 20 in the Millersport Lions Clubhouse. The 12 members present enjoyed the potluck lunch.

Deputy Hedrick of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office gave an excellent presentation on scams, fraud and identity theft.

President Ed Otte conducted a short business meeting. Everyone was reminded of the 90th Birthday Party for John Lutz to be held Oct, 22. It was decided that the first meeting in November would be a potluck lunch and the second meeting would be a catered meal. Door prizes were won by Carol King, Nancy Davis, Marty Holtz, Ruthanne Hammel, Mary Sue Slater, Dave Holtz, Richard Neff and Debbie Gant. The meeting was adjourned for cards and Bingo.

Honor roll

Millersport High School has been named to the 2023 AP School Honor Roll. Millersport High School is a Bronze member of the Honor Roll. As a Bronze member the high school had 45% of seniors who took at least one AP exam during high school. 30% of the seniors scored a three or higher on at least one AP exam for silver status and 5% of seniors who took five or more AP exams for silver status

State testing awards

All Millersport students who scored a “3” or higher on the spring/summer state assessments enjoyed Weldon’s Ice Cream on Friday, Sept. 22. All students who scored a “4” or “5” enjoyed pizza from Lakebound on Friday, September 29th.

Village council

The Village Council met Oct. 10 in the Municipal Building.

Items of new business included a report on the Neptune radio read meters that will be installed starting in October and to be finished by the end of February. Residents will be notified to set up appointments for the meter replacements. A follow-up meeting was scheduled with Southwest Licking for Wednesday, Oct. 18 at the Southwest Licking Water and Wastewater District Office on the water line installation project. The village has been working with their insurance company on the well pump that collapsed and fell 200 feet to the bottom of the well.

The Geneva Camp Staff and board would like to present a plan to hold Bingo on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting in January 2024. They will be invited to present at the November meeting.

Street Superintendent Dan Phelps will begin leaf pickup starting Wednesday, Oct. 18 and will collect leaves every Monday, Wednesday and Friday until Nov. 17.

Sewer Superintendent Josh Lutz showed the water infiltration and the sewer plants capabilities of discharging the wastewater and what the village needs to do that allows it to stay on top of the issues. The village has ideas to remove residential sump pumps and down spouts from the sanitary system. The plan is to first cap open sanitary lines. They are replacing electric boards and attempting to replace outdated equipment.

Millersport Police Chief Consolo sent statistics for the month of September. The department issued six warnings and had four dispatch runs.

Councilor Beth Butler set up a meeting with Jonette Haberfield to go over the steps needed to establish rules, guidelines, fees and 3% bed tax on short-term rentals. The Lancaster City ordinance is one of the models being looked at to implement. After much discussion, it was agreed to set a follow-up meeting to move forward on a Millersport Ordinance.

Walnut Township Fire Chief Robert Price sent the run totals for the month of September. Station 631 made 64 runs, Station 632 made 14 runs, and Station 633 made 20 runs. They also made 17 mutual aid runs.

A Resolution authorizing wage increases for 2024 was given the first reading.

A Resolution authorizing the Mayor to make sidewalk repairs was passed.

A Resolution authorizing the closing of Cherry Alley for the Fall Festival was approved.

Bob Myers complimented the village on the appearance of Millersport along with its organization and the discussions and future-looking ideas. Bob also complimented Officer Tim Gales for his professionalism and friendly manner.
