Fall is easily my favorite season. For one, my fall wardrobe is above all the rest — jackets, sweaters and boots, oh my! And two, pumpkin spice. I have the luxury of living next door to a Starbucks and snatched up my first PSL on a lovely 80 degree day at the end of August.

But make no mistake: The ultimate pumpkin spice treat for celebrating the season has to be Milk Bar’s Pumpkin Dulce de Leche Cake — and truffles.

The Pumpkin Dulce de Leche Cake starts with cinnamon spice cake layered with rich pumpkin frosting, gooey dulche de leche drizzle and crunchy milk crumbs. Plus, it’s topped with salted toasted pepitas. It’s the perfect fall birthday treat or pie substitution at Thanksgiving. A six-inch cake serves eight to 10 people.

Milk Bar ships nationally, so you can send a cake to yourself and to a friend for a little pick-me-up or get one for a nice socially-distanced gathering outside before the puffy parka weather hits.

If you want to send a friend a treat but maybe don’t want to send a whole cake, Milk Bar also makes Pumpkin Dulce de Leche Truffles. The dessert company basically rolled the cake with butterscotch chips and coated it with a thin layer of white chocolate and cinnamon to make these rich and fudgy treats.

If you’re not familiar, Milk Bar is a top-notch dessert company based in New York City. Award-winning chef and star of Netflix’s “Chef’s Table” Christina Tosi founded Milk Bar in 2008. While running the pastry program for Momofuku Ssam Bar, the restaurant of famous chef David Chang, she started creating twists on childhood favorites, like cereal milk panna cotta. Eventually, when a space next to the restaurant became available, she opened up her own place with encouragement from Chang.

Today, Milk Bar is known for creating fun, innovative and Instagram-worthy desserts. The signature birthday cake, inspired by funfetti cake and layered with pillowy frosting, took almost three years to develop. And Milk Bar’s seasonal pumpkin cake is a riff on that company classic.

You don’t need a reason to celebrate to enjoy these pumpkin treats. When times get hard or the weather gets cold, there’s nothing like pumpkin spice to warm you up.
