Former Iowa State 13-time Big 12 Conference champion Cailie Logue has punched her ticket to the World Athletics Cross Country Championships.

The new Fitness Sports Distance Project athlete placed fifth at the USATF Cross Country Championships in Richmond, Va., on Saturday to earn her spot for the competition in Belgrade, Serbia, on March 30 and leads off this edition of the WEEKEND UPDATE of the best performances by Iowa-based collegiate and postcollegiate distance runners and triathletes.

Logue, a volunteer assistant with the Iowa State track team and a graduate student at ISU, covered the 10-kilometer Pole Green Park course in 33 minutes, 52.7 seconds to earn one of six spots on the U.S. team for worlds. The seven-time All-American was edged by former NCAA champion Allie Ostrander for fourth by .2 of a second. The winner was recent U.S. half marathon record holder Weini Kelati in 32:58.6.

Not far out of the top six was former seven-time Loras College NCAA Division III champion Kassie Parker. The Hansons-Brooks Distance Project athlete now based in Rochester, Mich., placed ninth in 34:47.1. Parker is a formerClayton Ridge (Guttenberg) prep.

Three former Cyclones competed in the men's senior 10K race. Ryan Ford of the ZAP Endurance team placed 10th in 29:39.8. Two-time Olympian and HOKA athlete Hillary Bor, competing in his first race in nine months since breaking a foot, ended up a respectable 11th in 29:46.7. Placing 36th was Minnesota Distance Elite's Titus Winders in 31:56.9.

Turning now the rest of the way to indoor track and field, where Simpson College fifth-year senior Spencer Moon set a new American Rivers Conference record in the 3,000 meters at Friday's action-filled Cyclone Open in Ames. The former South Central Calhoun prep lowered the ARC record that he set a year ago by almost nine seconds while also eclipsing his own program record. Moon placed fourth in 8:04.91, which is the sixth-best time ever in NCAA Division III history and the leading mark in the division this season. Moon was just over five seconds behind Division I runner Said Mechaal of Iowa State on the Lied Center track.

Placing 12th for Drake University was redshirt freshman and former Dallas Center-Grimes prep star Aidan Ramsey. Ramsey ran 8:19.85. Next across the line was Wartburg College junior Jack Kinzer, a former North Liberty prep, in 8:22.06. Wartburg senior Jacob Green ended up 14th in 8:24.66. Green is a former Cedar Rapids Kennedy athlete.

Former Central Lyon-GLR prep Gable Sieperda eclipsed his best time in the mile for the second consecutive week while placing third in that event. The redshirt senior clocked 4:03.79 to chop 1.19 seconds off his time set at Iowa City a week ago. Taking seventh also in a new best time was redshirt sophomore and former Humboldt prep Quinton Orr in 4:05.96. Wartburg sophomore Lance Sobaski, a former Washington prep, ran 4:13.68 for 20th place.

Wartburg College senior Lexi Brown posted the fastest time in the nation while improving her third-best time in school history while taking the 3,000. The former New London prep covered the distance in 9:43.00 to hold off Tulsa senior Tamara Reeves by 1.14 seconds. Wartburg senior Aubrie Fisher, a former AGWSR (Ackley) prep ran the second-best time for Division III while running fifth in 9:48.11. Junior teammate Shaelyn Hostager moved into fifth in program history for the distance after running 9:50.08. That time by the former Dubuque Hempstead product is No. 3 in the nation. Simpson senior Kara Kallem set a new school record after placing 12th in 10:09.91. The former Dallas-Center Grimes athlete took down Sarah Cross' 1990 mark by almost three seconds. Junior teammate Teghan Booth was two spots back in 14th place. The former Valley prep's time of 10:12.18 is now No. 3 in program history.

Wartburg junior Carter Cruise notched the fourth-best time in program history after capturing second place in the 800. The former Monticello prep from Scotch Grove ran 1:52.86 to trail only Indian Hills sophomore Terrick Johnson's 1:51.38 time.

Iowa State redshirt senior Janette Schraft led a 2-4-10 finish from former Iowa preps in the women's mile. The former Glenwood and East Mills athlete ran 4:49.44 to hold off redshirt sophomore and former Johnston prep BellaHeikes by just .18 of a second. Heikes set a new personal-best time. Junior and former Charles City prep and Northern Iowa transfer Kiki Connell was 10th in 4:56.29. The winner was Tulsa's Katharina Pesendorfer in 4:48.40.

Wartburg junior Luke Benson grabbed third place in the 600-yard run in 1:15.48. The freshman and former Sioux City North prep ran 1:15.48. He was just .12 of a second ahead of freshman teammate and former Decorah prep Cade Olson, who was fourth. The winner was Iowa State's James Olivier in 1:11.70.

Current and former Iowa Hawkeye stars battled in a pair of races during the Larry Wieczorek Invitational at the Hawkeye Indoor Track Facility on Friday and Saturday. In the 600-meter Premier race Friday, former Iowa All-Big Ten and Davenport Assumption athlete Mallory (King) Lindaman ran 1:28.21 to top current Hawkeye junior Alli Bookin-Nosbisch by .52 of a second. Lindaman is a track athlete. That time by Bookin-Nosbisch ranks No. 5 in NCAA Division I. Placing third was Iowa sophomore and former Cedar Rapids Prairie prep Gabby Cortez in 1:30.05. Grace Bookin-Nosbisch, like Grace a junior and former Ottumwa prep, ran 1:33.45 for fourth.

In the women's 800 Premier on Saturday, Alli Bookin-Nosbisch got the better of Lindaman by running a winning time of 2:05.56. That time ranks sixth best in Division I. Lindaman came across the line in a strong 2:05.96 for second. Grace Bookin-Nosbisch placed fourth in 2:10.24. Northern Iowa junior Sophia Jungling, a former Aplington-Parkersburg prep, ran 2:14.11 for seventh.

Former Loras College NCAA Division III champion Mike Jasa, running unattached, topped everyone in the men's 800 Premier race on Saturday. The former Cedar Rapids Prairie prep ran 1:48.70 to cruise to victory. Northern Iowa junior and former Calamus-Wheatland athlete Chase Knoche ran a new personal best of 1:49.61 to claim second. That time is No. 8 in Division I. Iowa senior Nick O'Connor, a former Indian Hills and Clear Creek-Amana athlete, took fourth in 1:52.33. Northern Iowa sophomore Jayden Dickson, a winner a week ago, couldn't match that victory. The former Earlham athlete did run a new season-best 1:52.56 to place fifth. Panther freshman Kon Dut, a former Ames and Waukee Northwest athlete, ran 1:54.55 for ninth.

Austin Lietz, like Lindaman a former Iowa runner, claimed victory in the men's 600-meter Premier race. Lietz ran 1:17.08 while running unattached to win by .26 of a second. Iowa freshman James Fingalsen, a former Mason City High product, claimed fourth in a new personal-best time of 1:18.86. O'Connor started his weekend with a seventh-place finish in 1:19.70.

Iowa sophomore Will Ryan, a former Dowling Catholic prep, took sixth in the 3,000 Premier race in 8:16.24. He was one spot ahead of sophomore teammate and former Linn-Mar (Marion) prep Hayden Kuhn, who ran 8:17.25. The winner was Nick Randazzo in 8:01.85.

Former Pleasant Valley prep Luke Knepp had a good weekend. The Iowa student but running unattached, Knepp won the regular 3,000 in a new best time of 8:19.99. He was 3.51 seconds ahead of former Cedar Rapids Kennedy prep Miles Wilson, running unattached but an Iowa freshman. Iowa junior Jack Pendergast grabbed third in 8:24.78. He is a former Cedar Rapids Prairie prep.

Knepp also came back to place third in the men's mile in 4:14.86, one spot behind Northern Iowa sophomore Tyler Colvin. The former Marion prep ran a new best of 4:14.10 for second place. Iowa freshman and former Johnston prep Carson Lane was fifth in 4:18.19. In eighth was Northern Iowa junior and former Bellevue prep Brady Griebel in 4:18.75.

Iowa junior Amber Aesoph ran a strong 9:38.13 time to take seventh place in the women's 3,000 Premier race. She is a former Sioux City Heelan prep star. Taking 10th was Northern Iowa junior and former Hawkeye Community College and Waverly-Shell Rock athlete Emma Hoins. Hoins ran a new best of 9:55.51 for 10th. Maddie Block, an Iowa student but running unattached, was next in 11th in 9:56.87. Block is a former Linn-Mar prep. In 12th was Iowa senior and former Mount Pleasant prep Abby Ryon. Ryon ran 10:07.42. Illinois junior Halle Hill set a new meet record of 9:25.21.

In the regular 3,000, Iowa sophomore Aleah Tenpas took seventh in 10:04.68. Tenpas is a former Johnston runner.

Missouri graduate student Kelsey Schweizer jumped second place all-time in the Tigers' record book with a 2:44.16 time for the 1,000 meters at the Vanderbilt Invitational at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday. The former Dowling Catholic prep placed fourth to lead Missouri. Schweizer's time also is a top-25 mark nationally.

At the Mark Colligan Memorial at the Devaney Center in Lincoln, Neb., freshman Madison Brouwer made an impressive debut for South Dakota. The former Sibley-Ocheyedan prep ran the fourth-fastest time in program history while placing third in the women's mile in 4:52.29. She was the lead Coyotes runner. Brouwer also ran a 1:36.26 time in the 600 meters that was good for runner-up honors. Brouwer was just .44 behind winner Hayley Trotter of Nebraska.

Nebraska freshman and former Sioux City North prep Gabe Nash picked up a third-place finish in the men's mile. Nash ran 4:11.42 to finish just 3.26 seconds behind winner Adam Rzentkowski of Wichita State.

In the men's 800, South Dakota senior Dylan Blake was second in 1:55.53. Black is a former North Union prep.

Now to the NCAA Division II ranks, where Northwest Missouri State redshirt sophomore Nate Mueller earned a provisional time for nationals by placing third in the mle at the Coach Richard Alsup Open in Maryville, Mo. The former ADM (Adel) prep and Iowa State transfer ran 4:05.45 for the No. 4 time in the division this season. Sophomore teammate and former Saint Ansgar prep Riley Witt was fourth in 4:09.83 that is No. 8 in NCAA Division II. In fifth place was Nebraska-Kearney senior and former Center Point-Urbana prep Myles Bach. Bach ran 4:10.37 that rans No. 11 nationally. Bach also returned in the 3,000 to place fourth in 8:26.32.

Taking a victory was Northwest Missouri junior Taylor McCreedy, a former Atlantic prep and Iowa Central transfer. McCreedy ran 17:52.46 to claim the 5,000 meters.

Former Clarinda prep Mayson Hartley ended up fourth in the women's mile in 5:07.62. Hartley is a Northwest Missouri freshman.

In the 800, Northwest Missouri junior Bailey Blake took fifth place in 2:14.90. Blake is a former Indianola prep. Blake was just 1.85 seconds behind the winner.

Central College senior Caroline McMartin continued her assault on the Dutch record books during the Prairie Wolf Invitational Friday in Lincoln, Neb. The former Pella High prep broke the women's mile record during a winning effort of 4:57.40. McMartin was pushed to the finish line by junior teammate Megan Johnson, who was just .47 of a second behind. Johnston is a former Aplington-Parkersburg runner. The two rank fifth and sixth in NCAA Division III so far. Central junior Addison Parrott was fifth in 5:09.94, which ranks No. 6 in program history. Parrott is a former Danville prep.

Central senior Noah Jorgenson picked up a victory in the men's 1,000. The former Sidney prep ran 2:28.56. Teammate and fifth-year senior Caleb Silver took third in a new best time of 4:21.43. Silver is a former BCLUW (Conrad) prep.

Several Dordt University athletes earned NAIA qualifying marks during the Jim Emmerich/Alumni Invitational at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex Saturday in Brookings, S.D. Defender senior standout Payton Mauldin once again earned the 'A' standard for indoor nationals after taking runner-up honors in the 800. The former Central Lyon-GLR prep ran 1:51.03 to trail Minnesota Distance Elite's Tanner Maier by .23 of a second. Mauldin owns the top time in NAIA so far this season.

Dordt sophomore and former Atlantic prep Craig Becker also got the 'A' standard when he took eighth in the mile. Becker ran 4:13.24, which is the seventh-best mark in the NAIA. Former Pella High prep and Dordt sophomore teammate Josiah Wittenberg also ran 4:23.64.

Former Sioux City North prep Will Lohr was a winner in the men's 3,000. The South Dakota State redshirt freshman covered the distance in 8:22.73 to win by .18 of a second over teammate Carson Noecker. Fitness Sports Distance Project's Eric Steiger, a former Dordt standout, was third in 8:28.59.

Dordt junior Dayton Brunsting ran 1:22.59 for the 600 to earn second place. Brunsting is a former Boyden-Hull prep. The winner was Iowa Central Trevon Prince in 1:21.15.

Former Valley prep Kamryn Ensley competed in a pair of races. The Omaha sophomore ran to a third-place finish in the 3,000 in 9:57.96. Ensley also ended up 16th in the mile after running 5:06.30.

Several other excellent performances occurred at the Cornell Hilltop Invitational on Saturday in Mount Vernon. Cornell junior Gabe Soda, a former Madrid prep, was a winner in the men's mile in 4:17.71. Taking third place was Fitness Sports Distance Project's Kallin Carolus Khan of Iowa City in 4:24.46.

Matt Lorenz, a former Cedar Rapids Prairie prep, ran 14:58.16 to take second in the 5,000. Lorenz was competing unattached. Ean Caskey, a former Cornell great and current Running Wild Elite athlete, was third in 15:31.95. Caskey, from Mount Vernon, is 41 years old. Next across the line was RWE's Nathan Hopp, 40. The Cedar Rapids runner was clocked in 15:39.65. The winner was Cornell College sophomore Isaac vanWestrienen in a stout 14:09.91 time. Caskey also came back to place third in the 800 in 2:04.97.

Fitness Sports Distance Project's Andrea Ertz was a winner in the 5,000 and earned a runner-up finish in the mile. Ertz, a former NAIA national runner-up for Mount Mercy and a former Marion great, ran 18:09.58 to claim the 5,000 title. Ertz also ran 5:20.50 in the mile while being edged by current Mount Mercy junior J'Lyn Knutson. Knutson, a former Melcher-Dallas prep, ran 5:19.17.

At the Pat Healy Classic Saturday in La Crosse, Wis., former Clear Lake prep Adam Loenser placed third in the 3,000. The Wisconsin-La Crosse sophomore's time of 8:11.37 is now fourth in program history. He trailed only teammates Ethan Gregg and Grant Matthai.
