Mile of Music announces the first 50 artists coming to the 11th annual event
APPLETON - On the 100-day countdown mark to the 11th Mile of Music event, festival organizers announced the first 50 artists on this year's lineup.
This year, Mile of Music will be from August 1-4 along College Avenue between the Lawrence Memorial Chapel and Spat's. The 2024 event will feature over 200 musical acts, 40 host venues and stages and 700 live music sets and pop-up performances.
The city's most popular event is completely free to attend, with opportunities to purchase food, drinks, merchandise and other products from vendors spread throughout the 1-mile area of coverage. Organizers estimate this year's event to bring in 100,000 attendees with a spending impact of over $6.5 million.
Listening rooms, spaces made for attendees who prefer a seated, theater-style venue, have been extended to more than 10 spaces.
"The addition of even more Listening Room spaces allows attendees who prefer listening environments to have their very own 'festival within the festival'," said Dave Willems, curator for Mile of Music, in a news release.
Additionally, the Music Education Team, in collaboration with Lawrence University, is returning to the event with 25 educators and artists to lead interactive, hands-on music sessions for attendees of all ages.
On Tuesday, the organizers released the list of the first 50 artists that have been scheduled to perform with more artist announcements expected throughout May and June. The lineup features artists from 15 states and three countries, with an estimated 40% of artists from Wisconsin.
Of the 50 artists, 31 will be appearing at the event for the first time and 19 will be returning, with six hailing from Wisconsin. One of the more anticipated performances will come from Wild Adriatics, returning to the four-day festival after a five-year hiatus. First time performers, Bandits on the Run, were featured on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert's Top Shelf in 2019. Tommy Prine, son of the late John Prine, will also be performing for the first time.
