Mike Tomlin Has Blunt Assessment Of Steelers Offensive Line During 2020 Season
The Pittsburgh Steelers enter the 2021 season with a major question mark along the offensive line as the team relies on several new faces.
Pittsburgh watched as former star center Maurkice Pouncey walked away following the close of the 2020 season. The team also released veteran guard David DeCastro, who has dealt with ankle injuries over the past few years.
With those two gone, it’s fair to wonder if the Steelers offensive line will perform at a high level next season. Head coach Mike Tomlin isn’t worried, though, considering the team can’t perform much worse than last year.
“We don’t have the bar set real high,” Tomlin said, via Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “We were last in the league in rushing. We have nowhere to go but up from certain aspects. It’s not something we fear.
Here’s more of what Tomlin had to say:
“We’ve got capable guys. There’s an expectation here that those guys are going to deliver. I’m not going to be surprised when they do. As a matter of fact, we expect them to. You can write a rags-to-riches tale . . . like we’re starting at ground zero or in the basement, but we don’t see it that way.”
Pittsburgh signed five-time Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner after losing DeCastro. The team also drafted former Illinois standout Kendrick Green to take over for Pouncey at the center position.
