Dak Prescott has been dealing with a shoulder injury this summer, after coming back from a devastating ankle injury that cost him most of the 2020 season. Today, we got some good news on his status from Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.

Ahead of Wednesday’s practice, McCarthy said that Prescott will do “a little more throwing” than he did on Tuesday. The team has been pretty cautious with its handling of Prescott, especially given the huge contract it handed him this offseason.

He missed the Hall of Fame game against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. There’s no guarantee that we see Prescott at all this summer, which may be the right move, even before the shoulder injury.

Earlier this week, Ed Werder reported that the team has “absolutely no concern” that he’ll be good to go for the Sept. 9 opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Today’s news from McCarthy seems to back that up.

On Tuesday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport posted video of Prescott throwing. He said that the quarterback had made good progress, throwing about 20 balls during the session. Evidently the team agrees.

Dak Prescott was off to a historic start to the 2020 season, before he was derailed by the Week 5 ankle injury. He averaged 422 yards per game through his first four, putting him on an early pace to absolutely explode the NFL record.

Even with that production, the team struggled, winning just two of Prescott’s five starts, and finishing at 6-10 on the year. With upgrades on that side of the ball, and Prescott and others returning from injury, expectations are high once again for Dallas in 2021.
