There has been a ton of speculation this week about Mike McCarthy’s future with the Dallas Cowboys. Well, it sounds like he’ll be back for the 2022 season.

While on 105.3 The Fan this Thursday morning, McCarthy was asked if he spoke with Jerry Jones about his job status. His answer was very telling.

“I’m full speed ahead,” McCarthy said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “Obviously we talked about the disappointment of the game. … We talked about everything that needed to be talked about.”

Judging by that response, it’s fair to say McCarthy isn’t going anywhere.

McCarthy has already acknowledged that dealing with speculation like this is just a part of the job.

“I think for people in this profession, it’s accepted,” McCarthy said, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “It’s part of the job. I get that. I understand why you’re asking the question. It’s part of the job. You have a job to do, and I have a job to do here today in answering your questions appropriately and respectfully. But, yeah, I don’t put a lot into it because I know personally what I put into this.”

The Cowboys made a lot of progress under McCarthy this season, but they weren’t supposed to be one and done in the playoffs.

If McCarthy can’t lead the Cowboys to playoff success next year, his seat could get awfully warm.
