Mikaela Shiffrin is used to racking up gold medals. But this off-season, she’s rocking a diamond! The Olympian and two-time gold medalist announced her engagement to fellow skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.

The pair shared a beaming selfie on Instagram announcing the big news. They are both all smiles as they show off the ring. The caption reads “🤗🫶💍👫🤭”

Naturally, friends and fans of the couple filled the comments section with well-wishes. “🤩♥️⛷️ Congrats,” wrote skier Adam Zampa. Another follower added, “AHHH YAYYY!! Never have I been so excited for two people I don’t know at all!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!! 😍😍😍” Honestly, same!

Here’s everything you need to know about the newly engaged couple:

He’s an Olympic skier, too.

Mikaela and Aleksander likely never run out of conversation topics because he is also an Olympic skier from Norway. He is 31 years old, 1.81 meters (or about 6 feet tall) tall, and weighs 90 kilograms (or about 198 pounds).

They confirmed their relationship in 2021.

On May 31, 2021 Aleksander shared a photo of himself and Mikaela and went public with their relationship. He captioned it, "If you know, you know... and now you know." A few months later he gushed about the new romance in an interview with Olympics.com.

“We're having an amazing time together and what I find really cool is that we can share experiences and have conversations about things I can't really have with anyone else,” he said. “She has a lot of experience; I have some experience and we can make each other better.”

They love traveling and attending events together.

Whether for work or play, these two are always on the go. “It's always nice to travel with my boyfriend (who also happens to be a two-time Olympic medalist and multiple World Cup globe winner Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, from Norway). He keeps the mood light when we're at events like this, makes workouts super fun, and looks pretty good on the red carpet himself (just wait, you'll see!).”

Mikaela wrote in a photo diary for People.

Can confirm:

He suffered a scary crash in January 2024.

Aleksander was in a terrible crash during a World Cup downhill race in Wengen, Switzerland, per CNN. He dislocated his shoulder, tore two shoulder ligaments, and had a cut on his calf that required surgery because of nerve damage, her the outlet.

“It was a big hit,” he told CNN Sport. “Downhill is fast, it’s dangerous and, when things happen, it’s really hard to react and to remember tiny details.”

Of course, Mikaela was at his side for his recovery. She posted on IG:

“It feels like I’ve lived a thousand lives in the past 4 days. And I’m not the one who sent it straight into the A-net wall at 120kph💔. I can’t even put into words how much joy and energy Aleks brings into my life. Watching him get torn apart in Wengen from the TV, then airlifted, rushing with my family to meet @henriklegernes (such a hero during this time) at the hospital while Aleks went straight into surgery…and then finally seeing him as he was waking up hours later, confused and just repeating ‘I f*ed myself up so bad’…I don’t even know how to explain this, but it made me want to burn down the universe. But through every step of this process, he has been so beautiful and kind and thankful. He has not lost his patience once, even though he has had plenty of reasons to. He is inspiring and thoughtful and caring and he brings out the best in everyone around him, even in his most difficult moments,” she wrote.

They announced their engagement in April 2024.

Mikaela and Aleksander got engaged in April and announced it with their sweet IG post.

He’s a climate change advocate.

Aleksander is a climate advocate, and both he and Mikaela joined more than 200 athletes in signing a letter to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation demanding action over climate change, per VOA News.

“It’s about time to address a really important topic,” Aleksander said. “We see that the world is changing. We see also the impact of our sport. … I want the future generations to experience winter and to be able to do what I do.”

He’s her biggest fan.

Aleksander is Mikaela’s number-one hype man.

This IG is a case in point:

In a post for her birthday, he wrote, “Happy birthday to the 🐐 of relationships and one of the best women I know…you constantly inspire me—both on the mountain, but even more so (and most importantly)—off the mountain. Thank you for your support always, and for making me a better person. I love you.”

Awww. Congrats to these two!
