Port Clinton had a new all-time scorer, state champion and coach in 2023.

Fremont Ross played in two conferences. Here are 10 stories to remember from the year.

Ross girls basketball

The Little Giants advanced to regional for the first time in program history. Senior Destiny Robinson committed to Toledo to continue her career, and graduate Janiah Holmes established a career record for rebounds. Ross was a contender its final season in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference while matching a single-season program record for wins at 22-4. Robinson shared player of the year in the league and was second-team all-state.

Woodmore girls track

Azure Travis established school records to win the 100 hurdles at 14.42 seconds and 300 hurdles at 43.82 as Woodmore finished first overall at state in Division III. Ariana Florio, Emma Hammer, Olivia Vogelpohl and Travis were second in the 4x400 relay in a school record 3:56.29 as Woodmore earned a team crown overall. Vogelpohl accomplished one of the most impressive feats as the anchor when she, Emma Hammer, Caydie Buchanan and Jordan Beam finished fifth in the 4x800 at 9:46.15. Hammer was fourth in the 800 at 2:17.26. She established a school record at regional at 2:16.35.

Kami Periat, Port Clinton

She earned a state championship in the 100 backstroke at 54.32 seconds. She advanced to state in the 100 butterfly her first two seasons. Recognized performer of the meet, she was third in the 50 freestyle at 23.54 as a junior. Periat, Alexa Taylor, Shianne Lieske and Carlie Blaesing were third in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:38.65 last season. Periat, Taylor, Zoey Barr and Blaesing were seventh in the 400 freestyle relay at 3:38.31.

Adam Thorbahn, Port Clinton

Thorbahn finished his basketball career with a program record 1,502 points. The graduate tight end continued his football career at the University of Findlay.

Oak Harbor football

The Rockets won 12 games, including an unbeaten regular season and outright championship their first year in the Northern Buckeye Conference. Jake Ridener was first-team all-state on defense and receiver Jaqui Hayward on offense. Coach Mike May earned the 100th victory of his career, all with Oak Harbor.

Ross volleyball

The Little Giants won the Northern Lakes League Cardinal Division their first season in the conference.

Hayden Buhro, Oak Harbor

The graduate was seventh in the 100 at 10.73 seconds and fourth in the 200 at 21.82 at state as a senior. The 100 and his 21.67 in preliminaries at state are Rockets records. Buhro beat Lakota's Braxton Quaintance at 165 pounds in his final match to finish third in the state for wrestling.

Lakota girls basketball

The Raiders earned their first league crown since coach Erin Foos led the team as a player, winning the SBC River Division. They suffered a narrow setback in a district final. Graduate daughter Carlie Foos was player of the year in the conference.

Bellevue baseball

After losing twice to Perkins, including a run rule shutout and once to Norwalk, Bellevue recovered to earn a share of the SBC Lake Division crown. Ty Ray shifted from catcher to workhorse on the mound, batting .429 with a 0.81 ERA for player of the year status in the league.

The alum and longtime assistant took the helm for boys basketball.
