Here are the Middle Georgia high school basketball teams that made the state tournament

The region high school basketball tournaments wrapped up Saturday to set the stage for state playoffs, beginning Tuesday. Here’s a look at the Middle Georgia schools, boys and girls, competing for a championship and their first-round games.

Girls Basketball

Veterans won their region tournament in a one-point victory over Tift County and secured a home game to start the state tournament.

Warner Robins continued their hot season in the region tournament, winning the championship game over Union Grove by 10 to earn a top seed in the state playoffs. Jones County also qualified for the state playoffs with a third place finish.

Baldwin and Howard led the charge for Middle Georgia teams in their region tournament, finishing second and third respectively to earn a spot in the state playoffs.

The region tournament saw mostly chalk for Middle Georgia teams, with the top two teams facing off in the championship. Peach County, the highest-seeded team, won the region title against Mary Persons as both teams made the state bracket.

Northeast, Central and ACE all qualified for the state championship. The Chargers continued their storybook season with a win over Northeast in the championship game.

While Veterans did come up short in the championship, they’ll still play in the state championship bracket along with fellow qualifiers Houston County.

  • Mary Persons and Peach County finished third and fourth in their region tournament to earn state tournament berths, but they’ll both face road games in the first round.

Central, Northeast and Rutland all finished in the top four to earn a spot in the state tournament. Central’s showdown against Spencer in the championship game Saturday was delayed.
