Mickey Guyton is the World Series Game 4 national anthem singer. What to know about her

Mickey Guyton will sing the national anthem before the Arizona Diamondbacks face the Texas Rangers in Game 4 of the World Series at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

And something tells us she’ll be pulling for the Rangers.

Guyton moved to Nashville in 2011 to pursue her dreams, which led to her signing to Capitol Records Nashville.

'Better Than You Left Me' launched Mickey Guyton's career

The label released her debut single, “Better Than You Left Me,” in 2015. It got to No. 34 on Billboard’s country airplay charts and earned Guyton a nomination as New Female Vocalist of the Year from the Academy of Country Music.

In 2020, she released the single “Black Like Me,” a song that speaks to her experience as Black woman singing country music, against the backdrop of the George Floyd protests and the Black Lives Matter movement.

It earned a Grammy nomination for Best Country Solo Performance, with Guyton becoming the first Black woman to be nominated in that category.

Her first full-length effort, “Remember Her Name,” was released in 2021.

Variety said, “It’s a record that, on one hand, credibly posits Guyton as America’s next country-pop crossover superstar and, on the other, is unflinching about addressing the obstacles that may well still stand in the way of that happening.”

Entertainment Weekly also sang her praises: “Her debut album ‘Remember Her Name,’ which is full of heartfelt songs that soar and shiver alongside Guyton's majestic vocal, is a full-spectrum showcase of her long-simmering talent.”
