Emma Stone Wins Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical) at 2024 Golden Globes & Receives a Standing Ovation

Another celebrity just joined the winner’s circle, and we totally saw this “W” coming.

Tonight, Hollywood’s biggest stars gathered for the 81st annual Golden Globes. During the ceremony, Emma Stone won the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical) for Poor Things.

She was up against Fantasia Barrino for The Color Purple, Jennifer Lawrence for No Hard Feelings, Natalie Portman for May December, Alma Pöysti for Fallen Leaves and Margot Robbie for Barbie.

The Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical) has been around since the late ’40s, though it was originally combined with the Drama category. Previous winners include Michelle Yeoh for Everything Everywhere All at Once, Rachel Zegler for West Side Story, Rosamund Pike for I Care a Lot, Awkwafina for The Farewell, Olivia Colman for The Favourite, Saoirse Ronan for Lady Bird, Emma Stone for La La Land, Jennifer Lawrence for Joy and Silver Linings Playbook, Amy Adams for Big Eyes and American Hustle, Michelle Williams for My Week with Marilyn, Annette Bening for The Kids Are All Right, Meryl Streep for Julie & Julia and Sally Hawkins for Happy-Go-Lucky.

The 81st annual Golden Globes were held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The ceremony was exclusively broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.
