Michelin Guide-recognized Japanese noodle chain is coming to Elk Grove. Here’s where
Kajiken, a famous Japanese chain recognized by the Michelin Guide, is coming to the Sacramento area.
The restaurant is opening in The Ridge plaza in Elk Grove, at 7470 Elk Grove Blvd., Suite 120. It’ll be replacing the former Curry Up Now restaurant, said Kelly Rule, vice president of leasing with Pappas Investments.
The spot neighbors N’joy Cafe, Crumbl and Costco.
Kajiken received the 1,700-square-foot space on Friday and is expected to open in about three to four months, Rule said.
“We had several offers on the space, but went with Kajiken because of the food and popularity,” Rule said.
What is Kajiken?
Kajiken specializes in abura soba, a style of ramen that is made with a blend of oils and sauces instead of broth.
The restaurant was established in 2010 in Japan and quickly expanded with franchise stores throughout the country, as well as Singapore and China, according to its website. It launched its first store in the United States in 2022 in Baltimore, Maryland.
A year later, Kajiken opened its first California restaurant in San Mateo, which was later mentioned in the Michelin Guide.
“The springy noodles are made in house (score a seat facing the windowed noodle-making area) and are satisfying enough to eat plain, but with nine varieties, why?” the Michelin Guide stated about the San Mateo location. “Toppings range from ajitama and chives to kimchi, ume or spicy mentaiko.”
What’s on the menu at Kajiken?
Kajiken offers a wide array of abura soba.
At the San Mateo restaurant, there is a Homura Aburasoba made with spicy minced pork and topped with green onions, bamboo shoots, seaweed and a raw egg yolk or poached egg.
You can also choose abura soba dishes with roast beef or curry minced pork.
The restaurant offers appetizers and rice bowls, too.
