Michael Kors Brings His Jet-Set Style to San Francisco
When Michael Kors stepped into Neiman Marcus on San Francisco’s Union Square, the celebrity designer received an enthusiastic round of applause from department store staff as well as the guests attending his fashion show there earlier this week.
Kors, sporting his signature black blazer, was in the City by the Bay to present his 2024 ready-to-wear collections as part of a benefit luncheon hosted by the San Francisco Opera Guild and Neiman’s. Proceeds from the event went to the guild’s education and community programs.
While models strutted down the catwalk, Kors provided a running commentary on each look that fully captured his brilliance as a judge on Project Runway. The New Yorker, always funny and direct, dished helpful sartorial advice and entertaining stories. Of a chic ‘60s-inspired minidress with gold-chain detail, he quipped: “Do not wear this on a plane.” And of a striking cream coat and high-necked sweater, he confessed: “I’m obsessed with white. I just don’t wear it.” He endorsed the wearability of cashmere briefs, and in a sentimental moment, showed an elegant black gown that recreated the silhouette of his grandmother’s white wedding dress.
Later, lunch was served: lemon-cured salmon, strawberry shortcake, and Riesling from Castellucci Napa Valley. In an especially riveting live auction, Arlene Inch (whom the auctioneer dubbed “Pretty in Pink”) outbid another well-heeled woman to win a day of beauty and shopping at Neiman Marcus San Francisco. Also spotted among the crowd: Guild president Courtney Labe, event co-chairs Farah Makras and France Szeto, Vanessa Getty, Lisa Goldman, Mary Beth Shimmon, Pam Preston, Sobia Shaikh, Stefanie Roumeliotes, Sonya Molodetskaya, Karen Caldwell, Teresa Medearis, Barbara Brown, Dr. Carolyn Chang, Stephanie Block, Emily Millman and the city’s former mayor Willie Brown.
