Michael Irvin Criticizes Tyrann Mathieu For His Tom Brady Tweet

Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs wasn’t particularly close, but it didn’t get a bit chippy. Among those who got into it on the field, verbally at least: Bucs quarterback Tom Brady, and Chiefs defensive back Tyrann Mathieu.

After a few bouts of the back-and-forth, one former Patriots player said that Brady was going to try and pick on Mathieu from there on out, to make a point. Video shows that Brady basically said exactly that to the Honey Badger.

“Listen, Tom Brady’s a great quarterback. I never really saw that side of Tom Brady, to be honest,” Mathieu said after the game. “But whatever. No comment. it’s over with. I’m done with it.”

Apparently he wasn’t totally done with it. Later that night, he tweeted and deleted a message alleging that Brady “called me something I won’t repeat.” Tom Brady reportedly texted Tyrann Mathieu right after the game to apologize for whatever happened during those brush-ups as well, so there might be something there, but it sounds like both sides are willing to let it fade now.

Legendary Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin had a major issue with Mathieu’s since-deleted tweet. He believes it welcomed speculation that Brady used a racial slur, something that Irvin insists did not happen.

“I didn’t like that Tyrann Mathieu put that out like that, the way he put it out, honestly, because I thought — come on, now, it makes people want to know ‘What’d he say,’ as if he said the n-word,” Irvin said on The Rich Eisen Show. “And he did not. Tom did not. So I don’t even like that looming over this situation. So that’s why I think we should clean that up somewhere, somehow. That’s what I’m saying. He didn’t say that.”

Irvin sounds pretty confident that he knows the full story, so it is good to hear that whatever was said was nothing over the top.
