Michael Anthony says he regrets rift with Eddie Van Halen

Michael Anthony, the longtime bassist for Van Halen who left the band more than a decade ago, said he regrets that he didn’t repair a rift with Eddie Van Halen before the legendary rocker died in October.

In an interview on the “Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown” podcast released Friday, Anthony said the two didn’t speak for a stretch prior to Van Halen’s death at 65.

“It kind of bothers me, because we had some issues that were never resolved,” Anthony, 66, said. “But, I mean, what can you do?”

He said the two were on track for a reunion, but it never took place. “I’m really sad that it never happened,” Anthony added.

Anthony joined the band in 1974. He now plays for the rock supergroups Chickenfoot and the Circle.

He said he last played with Van Halen onstage in 2004. Eddie’s son Wolfgang took over on bass in later years.

When Eddie Van Halen died, Anthony posted three photos of the two onstage together in the glory days on Instagram with the caption, “No words...Heartbroken, my love to the family.”
