Miami Dolphins Have Released Veteran Offensive Lineman

NFL teams still have a few weeks before they need to start making roster cuts. Unfortunately for one veteran offensive lineman, the Miami Dolphins have decided to cut him ahead of schedule.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have released offensive tackle D.J. Fluker with an injury settle. Fluker underwent a knee scope last week and was placed on injured reserve afterwards.

Fluker’s release means he’ll be seeking a sixth team in the last five years. He spent the 2020 season with the Baltimore Ravens, starting eight of 16 games on a one-year deal with the team.

Prior to his one-year deal in Baltimore, Fluker spent the previous two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He started 23 games for the Seahawks before being released after the 2019 season.

D.J. Fluker was a highly touted right tackle coming out of Alabama in 2013. He went No. 11 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft and earned PFWA All-Rookie honors after starting 15 games for the San Diego Chargers as a rookie.

The Chargers soon switched Fluker to right guard, and he would play that position for the final two years of his rookie deal. He was released after the 2016 season and signed with the New York Giants.

At 30 years of age, Fluker should still have plenty of years left to keep playing. But injuries have continuously been a problem for him and seem to vex him at every turn.
