Miami Beach volleyball 6-0. Heritage on win streak. Pine Crest, Ransom golf fare well and more

The Miami Beach girls’ volleyball team came from behind to edge Coral Gables to remain undefeated at 6-0.

Under the direction of first-year coach and Miami Beach alum Jessica Abrascio Ramos, the visiting Hi-Tides bounced back after dropping the first two games 25-22, 25-23. Miami Beach then won 25-14 and 25-18 to force a fifth and deciding game, winning it 15-11.

The Hi-Tides previously beat Hialeah Gardens, Hialeah-Miami Lakes, Barbara Goleman, South Miami and Hialeah.

In other volleyball action, American Heritage-Plantation is on a 3-match win streak. The Patriots did not drop a set in victories over LaSalle, SLAM Miami and Don Soffer Aventura to improve to 5-2.

Undefeated still, Westminster Christian is now 10-0. True North won two matches to improve to 4-2, and Archbishop McCarthy (4-1) needed four games to defeat Cypress Bay.

Golf

Ransom Everglades and Pine Crest did very well at the Palm League Boys’ Golf Invitational at PGA National Resort & Spa in West Palm Beach.

Kobe Lopez led the Raiders. Krishan Nanda of Gulliver Prep and Sean Richards of North Broward Prep each fired 1-over (37) on the par 36 Palmer Course to tie for third with Lopez.

Jackson Langer and Jesse Hellring, both from Ransom Everglades, tied for eighth at 2-over (38) and teammate Jonathan Pollack tied for 12th at 3-over (39).

Archbishop Carroll 41, Palmer Trinity 0: Ryan Castro led the offense on the ground and in the air. Castro rushed for 78 yards on 8 carries and went 5-of-5 passing for 103 yards and 1 TD. Manny Bynum, Alejandro Isaza and Sylus Villanueva each scored twice. The Bulldogs’ defense notched its second shutout in three games. Dylan Miranda and Eric Rodriguez led that defense by recording 6 tackles apiece. Ryan Gonzalez intercepted another pass, his 3rd of the season (one in each game). AC (3-0), PT (2-1).

North Broward Prep 20, Pembroke Pines Charter 13: Trailing 6-0 in the first quarter, Eagles kicker Jake Smiler made a field goal. Behind 6-3 in the third quarter, Deandre Desinor scored on a run to give North Broward Prep a 9-6 lead. Pembroke Pines Charter scored in the fourth quarter to regain the advantage, but the Eagles responded with another field goal by Smiler and a winning touchdown on another run by Desinor. Caleb Ayala then added a 2-point run. Desinor finished with 15 carries for 159 yards and two touchdowns. He also had three punt returns for 51 yards, giving him 200-plus all purpose yards. Jeremiah Jean-Phillipe had 20 carries for 52 yards and two TDs for PPC. Teammate Chris Dorsett had seven solo tackles with four sacks, four hurries and one assist, and Izayah Drapin added three solo tackles and three asists. NBP (2-1), PPC (1-1).

Westminster Academy 21, St. Brendan 13: Michael Kulikowski scored on an interception return, and Marco Netto added the extra point to give St. Brendan a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Trailing 21-7 in the fourth quarter, the Sabres scored on a Jordan Canas fumble return to make things close. Widley Jean-Francois ran 12 times for 56 yards and caught a pass covering 26 yards Gabriel Granandos caught 2 passes for 19 yards. Anthony Gray made 3 tackles with 5 assists and 1 TFL. Pablo Pena had 1 tackle and 5 assists with 1 sack. Kulikowski also recovered a fumble. StB (1-2), WA (2-0).
