Miami Beach officer shot by colleague in scuffle with man on Venetian Causeway, police say
A Miami Beach police officer shot a fellow officer while in a scuffle with a possibly armed man Saturday, authorities said.
Around 12:30 p.m., Miami Police Department put out an alert that a man, possibly armed, was walking on the Venetian Island Causeway, Miami Beach police spokesperson Christopher Bess said.

Miami Beach officers found the man and a struggle ensued. During the altercation one officer shot their colleague, police said.
They were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
“[The officer] is in stable condition and was alert,” Bess said.
The man alleged to have a gun was detained and speaking to investigators. Police have not said whether charges will be filed.
Authorities said the incident is not related to spring break and there is no threat to the community.
Venetian Causeway closed
Residents are being told to avoid the Venetian Causeway as parts of the bridge are closed during the investigation. It’s not known how long parts of the bridge will be closed.
Motorists have two detours they can take to get to Miami Beach or to Miami.
From downtown Miami, the closer option is the MacArthur Causeway to the south. Drivers can turn onto it by going down Biscayne Boulevard from Northeast 15th Street.
To the north is the Julia Tuttle Causeway. Drive up Biscayne Boulevard and turn right on Northeast 36th Street to get onto the causeway.
From Miami Beach, motorists can go south to the MacArthur Causeway by going down Alton Road. Taking Alton Road north will lead them to the Julia Tuttle Causeway.
