MIAA Division 1 indoor track & field championships highlight Thursday's Fantastic 5

From big showings at a championship meet to league title-clinching performances and undefeated seasons, our Fantastic Five (plus one) did a little bit of everything Thursday.

The Framingham girls finished second as a team at the Division 1 state indoor track & field championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Thursday with 48 points. Franklin followed the Flyers in third with 44.

There are more track championships throughout the week and swimming this weekend at MIT with wrestling dotted around the state. Basketball and hockey brackets are just around the corner.

But for now, here are Thursday's Fantastic Five that stood out from the pack:

SAM DADAGIAN, Hopkinton boys basketball

He dropped 26 points with seven rebounds and four assists in a 66-57 win over Westborough on Thursday. Hopkinton's Jack Ianelli contributed 15 points and five assists, while James Marcinowski added eight points and seven rebounds for Hopkinton (16-3). Nick Belloffatto led Westborough (13-5) with 18 points. Justin McCaffery scored 11 for the Rangers.

ABBY DESMARAIS, Framingham girls indoor track and field

The Holy Cross-bound senior topped the podium twice at the Division 1 state championships shot put title Thursday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Desmarais crossed the line first in the 55-meter dash in 7.03 seconds, the quickest time in Massachusetts this year and No. 30 nationally. She also set the state's top time in 300 (39.61 seconds) in winning her second gold of the evening. Desmarais also anchored Framingham's second-place 4x200 relay team with Ava Lombardo, Sasha Lamakina and Ella Terranova, who finished in 4:02.19, the second-fastest time in the state this year. Natick's Emmanuella Edozien took third (7.08) in the 55. Lamakina also placed first in the 600 in 1 minute, 36.43 seconds for the Flyers. Framingham's Emily Richardson won the shot put with a toss of 39 feet, 0.5 inches . Franklin's Lily DeForge followed her in second (38-5.25).

SARAH DUMAS, Franklin girls indoor track & field

The Penn-bound senior captured two medals at the Division 1 state championships Thursday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Dumas took first in the girls 55-meter hurdles in 8.44 seconds. She also leapt over 5 feet, 2 inches to place fourth in the high jump. Her teammate Abigail Griffith was sixth (5-0). Franklin's Ella Chandaria took third in the 55 hurdles (8.62) followed by Natick's Emmanuella Edozien in fifth (8.66) and Sydni Chandler in sixth (8.7).

JAMES McKinney, Nipmuc boys basketball

He scored 16 points as the Warriors (13-5, 8-2 Dual Valley) clinched a share of the Dual Valley title for the first time since 1997 with a 52-43 win over Sutton on Thursday. Nipmuc's Jacob Giardini hit a 3 and contributed 13 points.

GABRIELLE PIERRE, Lincoln-Sudbury girls indoor track and field

The junior set the top long jump mark in Massachusetts this year, clearing 19 feet, 2.25 inches to win the Division 1 state title Thursday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. It's the 19th-best jump in the U.S. this year.

SOPHIE WARD, Lincoln-Sudbury girls alpine skiing

The senior took second place Thursday, as the Warriors defeated Winchester 52-39 to cap their second straight undefeated season. Freshmen Virginia Weeks (fourth) and Kara LaPointe (seventh) joined her in the top 10. L-S will compete in the state championships Feb. 27 at Wachusett Mountain.

Boys basketball

LINCOLN-SUDBURY 57, Acton-Boxborough 48: Ryan Dooley dropped 22 points with five rebounds for the Warriors (13-5, 7-2 Dual County League) on Wednesday. L-S senior Peter Abair added 13 points and five rebounds.

MILLIS 69, Blackstone Valley Tech 54: Sean Ryan scored 18 points for Millis (8-11) on Wednesday. BVT's Jon Powell scored 18 points, while Ryan Sauter had 10 for the Beavers (10-8).

BLACKSTONE-MILLVILLE 56, Keefe Tech 45: Logan Greenlaw led the Broncos (8-9) with 13 points on Thursday.

ACTON-BOXBOROUGH 50, Lincoln-Sudbury 40: Sarah Poland had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors (13-5, 8-2 Dual County) on Thursday. L-S' Evie Schwartz added 10 points and six rebounds.

HOLLISTON 58, Ashland 30: Junior Megan Simpson scored 22 points for the Panthers (9-11, 7-9 TVL) on Thursday. Holliston's Kaylee MacDonald contributed 12 points, and Megan Lyons put up 10 rebounds and nine points. Freshman Ava Fitti led Ashland with 16 points.

HOLLISTON 53, Grafton 50: Simpson went nuclear with a career-high 41 points Wednesday, and the Panthers needed every one of them in a 53-50 win. Kaylee MacDonald added eight rebounds and seven steals for Holliston with four points.

NORTON 59, Wayland 45: Annika Martins scored 17 points for the Warriors (7-11) on Thursday. Wayland's Jenny Shine swatted away 10 blocks.

FRAMINGHAM 53, Shrewsbury 31: Allie Regan dropped 22 points for the Flyers (10-7) on Thursday. Framingham's Caroline Galvani added 12 points, while Grace Hanna contributed 11 rebounds and eight points. Stephie Regan stuffed the state sheet with seven points, six blocks and five steals.

MILFORD 33, Hopedale 31: Phoebe Carroll scored 25 points with 14 rebounds for the Blue Raiders (9-9) on Thursday. Hopedale's Bea Hava pulled down 10 rebounds.

WESTBOROUGH 58, Hudson 49: Rachel Carpenter hit seven 3s on her way to 22 points, Annabelle Semeter had 15 points and Kate Sams had 10 points for the Rangers (12-6) on Thursday. Samantha Collette netted 21 points for the Hawks (11-7).

LINCOLN-SUDBURY 47, Weston 42: Nick Boden finished sixth for the Warriors on Thursday, while Will Gabel was 10th.

Boys indoor track & field

DIVISION 1 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS: Nico Begic of Lincoln-Sudbury took second in the boys 300 in 34.69 seconds, the second fastest time in the state this year. Franklin's Aidan Thorne cleared 21 feet, 1.5 inches to place third in the long jump. His teammate Quinten Hardt finished third in the boys 55-meter hurdles (7.68 seconds). Steven Tafmizi of Natick was sixth in the shot put (49-2.25). Natick's John Bianchi placed sixth in the mile (4:24.31).
