Mexican, soul food, healthy wraps and more: These new spots are coming soon to Macon

Several new restaurants and businesses in Macon have put their signs up, with most close to opening.

Think Mexican cuisine, soul food, healthy food options, freshly-made ice cream, steak and seafood, and more.

Here’s a roundup of new 10 new spots, including a pizza and BBQ restaurant that’s relocating.

Pig on a Pie — This pizza and BBQ restaurant is moving from its Houston Road location at the close of the business day May 19 and is expected to open at 11 a.m. May 30 in its new location at 4921 Riverside Drive, Suite 1, in the former Georgia Bob’s BBQ location. The restaurant offers a variety of pies from a classic cheese to various specialties such as a taco pizza to build your own. Also on the menu are fresh salads, breadsticks, pecan smoked wings, pizza sandwiches, pork by the pound and ribs.

Chevo’s Mexican Restaurant — Going in right beside Pig on a Pie in Suite 2 is a new Mexican restaurant. A banner stretched across the front of the restaurant says it’s “coming soon.” It’s going into the former Barberitos spot in the Shoppes at Riverside Center across from The Shoppes at River Crossing.

Nature’s Table Cafe —This fast casual restaurant known for its healthy offerings is joining other restaurants in the retail ground floor space of the Lofts at Navicent at 761 Spring St. in Macon. The restaurant serves up wraps, sandwiches, toasted sandwiches, salads and protein bowls. Participating locations also offer breakfast options.. The new spot is independently owned and operated by Robertson Holdings LLC.

3rd & Cherry — Eddy Lopez, who’s made a career working restaurants, expects to open in early June his own steak and seafood restaurant with “a little Caribbean fusion”at 393 Third St. Entrees are expected to include speciality shrimp and chicken dishes, sesame crusted ahi tuna, grilled salmon with white wine sauce, lump crab cakes, cast iron filet, cast iron ribeye, lamb chops with mint jelly.

Sides include sauteed spinach, lyonnaise potatoes, sauteed mushrooms and grilled asparagus. The menu is also expected to feature a few authentic Caribbean food such as kan kan pork chop, mofongo and whole fried red snapper.

Kravin Gravy —Tekisha Henderson is opening a soul food spot at 3760 Eisenhower Parkway, R-16, inside the Macon Flea Market. She plans to serve up dishes such as oxtails, baked chicken, turkey wings and shrimp, to name a few, as well as sides such as mac and cheese, potato salad and yams along with desserts like sweet potato pie.

She’s set a soft opening date of May 17. Henderson joins about 30 other mall vendors and a few food spots, including City Wings Steak & Lemonade that owner Mike Davis said he’s working to reopen soon.

Cold Stone Creamery — This franchise ice cream shop is known for creating custom orders from freshly made ice cream by mixing the ice cream with a variety of goodies on a frozen granite stone.

The new store is “coming soon” to 150 Tom Hill Sr. Blvd., Suite 254. In addition to ice cream, the store offers cakes, shakes and smoothies.

SL Sausage Company — Josh and Katie Pitts are opening soon a Macon store of this popular butcher shop that started in Cordele in South Georgia. In addition to its meats, the Macon store at 5615 Zebulon Road is also expected to offer Georgia Grown products, wine and beer, produce and a selection of premier gift items, according to its Facebook page.

Local vendors expected to be featured include Oh Honey Baking Co. from Ingleside Village and Acres & Oak Kitchen, which has locations in Macon, Perry, Dublin and Tifton.

Apt.77 — Darius Jones is expected to open a new lounge in the former location of A Brooke Haven Lounge at 401 Cherry St.

Sophia’s on Second — Restaurateur Ron Whidby and business partners are opening a new restaurant and cocktail bar at 428 Second St., the former spot of Lazy Susan’s Tapas Bar.

Those are in addition to The Rabbits Hole, Lucky Luciano and Big Daddy Sweet Treats all coming to downtown under the umbrella of The Phoenix Group.

Now open

The Cotton Ranch — This high-end steakhouse at 537 Cotton Ave., which offers farm to table food, was expected to open Saturday. The food is locally sourced from Georgia pastures and farms. For example, the restaurant’s Wagyu beef comes from L. Jacobs Farm, for example. In addition to beef steak cuts, the restaurant also offers lamb and some poultry.

Sides include loaded baked potatoes, sweet potatoes and fresh vegetables. The restaurant is in the former La Bella Vita Italian Kitchen location.

QuikTrip— A new store of this popular gas station and convenience store chain is now open at 2710 Riverside Drive. In addition multiple gas pumps, the new QT offers hot food from its kitchen — including tacos, BBQ, grilled cheese, ham & cheese and other sandwiches, soft pretzels, breakfast scrambles, biscuits, toasted croissants and mac and cheese options.

Grab-and-go foods are also available like cold subs, hot dogs and fruit as well as a variety of drinks and snacks and other items expected in a convenience store.
